For many years, I carried an original Knives of Alaska 3 piece caping set. I remember how long you had to wait to get a set made and delivered to the lower 48. Lot of Maine Guides were in that que. I managed to buy my set from a retiring guide. Think I toted that set with every gun, on every hunt...for years. With the downturn in the economy, we felt same loss of income. In order to pay the bills and live life, My gun collections were sold.
My knife collection went...and then my users. Really bothered me to sell off the KOA set. Regretted that one, alot.
Times change, jobs change...things improve.
I had held onto the one revolver that I almost always carried with my original knife set. Always thinking of doing some sort of matching BBQ rig.
Old timers here know I have done some knifework, and dabble in leather. Anyrate, a simpler two piece Bearskinner set of Knives of Alaska came to me. Rough shape, but I could afford them. Sheath was ripped literally in half and so I saved the front panel, only. Redid it in my manner. All hand stitched, instead of machine..remoulded and hardened. I stained it dark...as were the originals...not the Cabelas stuff from Texas.
The Stags are 1/2" thick on the inside, and over 3/4" on the right side. Pretty much got all the bark you can into them.
Going to make the holster for the gun, next. Might cut the horn for the gripframe, later this week.
