I cannot find anything on this. Is it lawful to carry Bear Spray openly when hiking and camping on land built by US Army Corps Enginners? This will be in Virginia, Philpott Lake to be exact. I know firearms are forbidden.

Thanks

..... when hiking and camping on land built by US Army Corps Enginners?.....

I know the Corps is capable and has built dams and stuff, but actually building land? Wow ... ;)

But seriously, as far as I know, the policy always applied specifically to firearms. There are some dam sites around here where they actually have armed guards checking and asking before you can go in.

But I see no reason why bear spray should be included. If in doubt, call the Corps office administering the unit of land you are going to visit.

And even the gun prohibition may be on its way out. I remember discussions and some litigation from last year; don’t recall the details, but you might want to look into that.

Col. Robert E. Lee "unbuilt" a couple of Islands in the Mississippi that were threatening to close the Port of St. Louis, Missouri many moons ago.

Don't know why they couldn't build one.

Would be surprised if you would run into a bear around Philpott. You might see a bare butt up there. Keep a couple of cans of that wasp and hornet spray around and that should certainly discourage what you will find there. Those things can shoot up to 20 feet or so.

Nice little lake enjoy the visit and don't worry about Mr B. But......if you see one....pictures please, we love bear pictures :)
