Beirut Bombing 30 Years Ago Today

On 23 Oct. 1983, during the Lebanese Civil War, jihadists attacked the barracks of USMC BLT 1/8 in Beirut with suicide truck bombs. 220 Marines and 21 other U.S. servicemen were killed. Many today believe that incident represented the opening shots of the War On Terror.

Prayers for the fallen and their loved ones who have had to cope with their passing.

I heard several times today that the bombing planted seeds in the mind of osama bin laden.
I was in Beirut a couple of years after that bombing, clothes and US Marine uniform parts scavenged from the barracks ruins were being worn or displayed by young thugs as "war trophies".
