I have a blued Colt 1911. I don’t carry it much, and to be honest it’s become a safe queen that’s taking up space.

I’m thinking of trading it towards a .45 acp Beretta Px4 Storm Special Duty. It’s much lighter, extremely reliable, and comes with 10 round mags.

Anybody have experience with the Beretta Special Duty .45? Is this a good option?

Thanks.

Depending on the exact model and condition, I would venture that the Colt is worth more than the Berretta. Might be better off selling the Colt outright and buying what ever you want.

The Beretta is 900-1K. It's a costly little critter.

The Colt is a series 80. The Beretta is 'worth' more than the Colt...but the Colt is probably in higher demand.

For what you get over a standard PX4, that "Special Duty" version is grossly overpriced, imo. You get an extended barrel and a tan frame. No way I'd trade a Colt 1911 for a px4 with an extended barrel and tan frame when I can pick up a standard px4 for $300-$400

That's a great point. I can't believe that thing is over 900 bucks. I handled a new one at the LGS today. I compared it to a new HK USP .45, which was only 850. The Beretta SD was 1000.

I will say though: the Beretta had a superior trigger, was much quicker in handling, less top heavy, and had thicker polymer.

Apparently the Beretta SD also has treated internals for corrosion resistance.

I admit, it's very costly.

I suppose it depends on why you want to trade off your Colt 1911 - for the Beretta specifically or just a lighter polymer .45. I would guess the Colt will continue to appreciate in value while any modern gun like a PX-4 (M & P, Glock, XD, Sig) will be cheaper with time, so I would buy used or save up for another .45 and keep the Colt. And squeeze the new buy really hard into any space in the safe :).

Trading a Colt .45 auto for something else is usually a good route to feeling regret.

If I traded one, it'd just be to swap a blue one for a stainless one.

Just buy the Beretta if you must have one and keep the colt.
