My step son just bought a Beretta Cougar and we are having problems finding magazines for it. While we have located some it brought up a different question about interchangeability between models. Please don't refer me to the (a since there are several) Beretta forums. I have spent about 2 hours on several and haven't found the question asked on any of them!

The question, and this pertains to the full-size 9mm only. Are magazines from any other Beretta (92, PX-4) interchangeable, either as-is or with minor modification? No guesses please, just knowledge based on experience.

I might be wrong, but look at Stoeger. I'm thinking that they now make that pistol line under license.

Yes, you are correct about Stoeger now manufacturing the Cougars. They bought the Beretta equipment and now make them (and sell them for a lot less than Beretta!!). The Cougars are are very good quality guns...

I had a nice Beretta Mini Cougar that a sold a few years ago. It was a great gun that shot very well. I just never used it. I bought it new back in the 90s, and at the time it was considered a small carry gun. Since then, there are so many better choices for 9mm carry.

If you needed the mini Cougar mags, I could have sold you some... I don't believe the 92/96 mags interchange with the Cougars. I had a 96, and I don't recall them fitting my Mini Cougar. Check out MecGar mags. They made them for Beretta, and are good quality.

I know you said you don't want guesses, but a guess to the negative won't hurt you. My experience is with the .40's, and the mags are not interchangeable between the 96, the 8040 Cougar and the PX4. Actually, the Cougar and the 96 share the same magazine body, but the catch is in a different position. I had purchased a ton of 96 magazines with the intention of converting them for the Cougar but as it turns out the new cuts would be imho too close to the old cuts and it would leave a very narrow strip of steel between the two. Seemed like a bad idea so I just dug a little harder for original Cougar mags and threw the 96 mags in a box, waiting for a future pistol purchase which is sure to come.

The PX4 mags are larger and won't fit in the magwell of the Cougar.

I'm sure the 9mm mag situation is similar.
