Anyone here have a secret honey hole they keep tabs on? Somewhere with loads of berries ripening in the sun, just waiting to be made into something?

My wife likes to make jam, so I go with her to a local spot my buddy shared with us. Blackberries.

I wear long sleeves and a special gardening glove that's stretchy fabric with a rubber coating on the palm and fingers. I use these on cold days on the boat too - different pair. :) Tactile and protective.

I made up a cardboard box, lined with a large plastic shopping bag and strapped around my neck so the box is in front of me. I can hold the box under a group of berries and pluck away, just letting them fall into the box.

My wife goes way down the coast to a berry farm and she takes our daughter, a friend or my Mom and the ladies make a passel of jam after. Strawberries, ollieberries, like that.

This local patch is convenient to say the least, but it's strictly blackberries.

Now when we go for a drive, we catalog spots, someday we'll get to 'em.

How 'bout you?

I have woodland strawberries, raspberries and blackberries growing wild in various locations on my land. The raspberries are quite abundant this year. One time recently when I cut my grass I took a small bucket and picked about half a pound (from the mower... didn't even need to get off).

I also have a few blueberry bushes planted that always produce pounds of berries. My land once had an orchard and there are still some trees that make apples.. They usually get enjoyed by bugs first but last year I actually got about 2 dozen good ones from one tree and made a pie. :) There is also a pear tree that I pass when cutting the grass... I had one of them just yesterday actually.

Finding wild berries is always fun. I can remember growing up my brother, sisters, and myself would sit in the front yard picking the tiny woodland strawberries that would come up sometimes in the summer.

Russian River Berries..

I use to know several places along the Russian River that were so thick with Blackberries I could almost pick my weight in an hour..but now that I am up in tonnage I don't think that is possible any more..but I am on my way there next week for a week of float tubing and berry picking..will send a PM if I find the old patches..do love summer berries with ice cream..all5x
