I have some Berry's HBRN 124gr 9mm bullets to load. Anyone have experience with them? I have been using Hornady FMJRN 115gr with 5.8gr PowerPistol, C.O.L. 1.130 and its been working good in my 5" pro series.
My main question is the C.O.L. The Berry's is definitely a longer projectile, but what role does the hollow base play?
I will be loading with PowerPistol, CCI Primers.

Thanks for any comments, the help here is great!

The hollow base helps the bullet base expand and seal against the bore.

I've used Berry .380ACP 100-grain HBRN ... more accurate for me than the non-HB bullets.

I have been using that bullet in my 38 super and its been very accurate. The hollow base will in theory help the bullet expand against the rifling but it also makes the 124 grain bullet longer for better feeding in an auto.

An idea first known as the "Minie Ball", invented by Claude Minie before the Civil War and further developed by James Burton at the Harper's Ferry Armory.

In modern usage, it's very handy in short barreled pistols and revolvers to impart a stronger spin earlier.

Thanks for all the replies. I still have a question regarding the hollow base of this bullet. How much does it effect pressure and overall length. I can't find a suggested C.O.L. anywhere.

They work great in my model 39 S&W and my Luger. I load them to the same OAL as factory 9mm I've measured. Start low and work up with powder charges and watch for pressure signs.

A hollow base bullet leaves more volume in a case than a flat based bullet of the same length. They also swell to fill the grooves in a barrel, and are more forgiving of varying barrel dimensions than flat based bullets.

the only issue I have with Berry s plated bullets is that there is no published load data and real pressure testing. I load mine to the longest OAL that will function in the magazine and watch carefully for pressure signs.

I use the 124gr FNHB 9mm and 185gr RNHB 45 Hollow base Berrys. The skirt doesn't really expand like on a LHBWC, usually just gives them the longer profile. On my 9mm I'm running 1.050" OAL and 4.4 Universal Clays which is about 1/2 grain below max jacketed load.

They do say to load them in the midrange for lead and to keep them below 1200fps. Following those parameters, pressure will not be an issue.

I ran into the same problem last week when loading their 124gr HP's. Couldn't find accurate OAL info anywhere. Gave Berry's a call and they gave me the info. In my case, 1.060".

Load up 10 or so and then rack them through your gun to make sure they will cycle properly.
