There is no set answer. It would be best to try all four brandings in either your rifle, pistol, or both to see what rounds they prefer - The results may surprise you!

In the firearms market there really is no such thing as a clearly defined "good", "better", "best". Buy the most expensive and you could find out your rifle doesn't like them. Every style and price point has its negative and positive points. Try as much variety as you can and stick with what works

Boy, that's a tough one to answer, best in what exactly, ignition, functionality or accuracy? To further complicate things is the .22lr firearm itself, they can be rather picky about what they like to work with and be accurate with. I had a real problem with the Remington Goldens a few years ago that resulted in my giving away the remaining brick and a half of it, that was in revolvers, semi auto handguns and semi auto and bolt rifles. For a overall .22lr ammo for some reason I have good luck with Winchester X-Pert and Federal Champion as runner up. I almost got rid of a M-18 dash three that refused to be accurate with any ammo tried, and I tried a lot, finally I fed it some Winchester X-Pert and it shoots it like a champ. The best I could say is to get a mess of different brands of ammo and see what works best for you and your firearms. I know these days getting the stuff is not easy, good luck and good shooting!

THANKS

I think I'm going to try the Federal champion first, its an old High Standard military hd I''ll be trying them in. I'll soon see on Sunday

Over time , try as many brands as you can. Keep notes if you have to. My guess is that you will choose, as many do, CCI.
These days, if you have a choice , you are lucky. I buy what I can get, except never Rem Thunderbolt
From the ones you mention, I would select Rem Golden..

Rimfire ammo is a funny thing. Different .22 guns like different rimfire ammo.

For example:
- My Henry levergun just loves Remington 40gr Golden Bullets.
- My 5.5" Ruger Single-Six shoots Federal Lightning ammo like a laser.
- My old Marlin M25 shoots CCI Mini-Mags the best and to my surprise it also shoots cheap Rem. Thunderbolt ammo almost as well.
- I have a heavy bolt Savage that shoots CCI Standard Velocity .22 ammo best. It also shoots Federal Champion Target all very well. (#714 from Dick's only)

So I guess what I'm saying is, you can't pick one ammo as best if you're shooting more than one .22LR gun.

I love to shoot my 22's and I have all around good results with CCI. Remington's are at the bottom of the list due to sizing and misfires so will shoot up the remaining Remington's in my revolvers

I have had consistent misfires with exactly one brand of ammo in almost all of my .22's. Avoid the Winchester "Wildcat" loadings. The Winchester X-Pert loads are fine, but foul the gun and accuracy falls off...

CCI mini mags work great, but group poorly from all of my .22's. Remington Target, Winchester T-22, and most sub-sonic loads have proven the best option for my guns.

Ok update..... I found that Federal 36gr HP copper plated to work the best in both my High Standard semi pistol and Ruger 10/22 .I also tried the Winchester,m22 40gr and the Winchester 555 36gr,all HP copper plated.it seem like the Federal 's gun powder was cleaner and I had no Jams or misfire's with the Federal in my 10/22,just a few with the both Winchesters rounds. I also notice that the bullet was tighter in the casing it wasn't lose like the win m22 or win 555.,,,,, thanks for all the posts

My rifles seem to like (Cheap?) Federal 550 bulk ammo and the handguns seem to be most accurate with CCI mini-mags . Any will work but most .22's have a preference as to what they'll shoot accurately. Your assignment is to try as many different brands (when you can find them) as you can, and see what your guns like best.

A question with so many answers

I've shot just about any 22 ammo I could get, most of them work for me , sure I had a few problems with some mainly fail to fire but if I had to pick one it would be CCI mini's or the high velocity Stingers.
