I need to get a new OWB holster for my M&P. Any suggestions? Some folks like all leather, some like lined leather, some like kydex. I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone. In addition to suggestions, can you explain WHY your choice would be better than others? Thanks!

Every holster selection involves a compromise of the four basic factors: 1. comfort, 2. concealability, 3. security/weapon retention, 4. accessibility.

If you would like to share with me your thoughts on which of these factors are most important to you perhaps I can make some suggestions for your situation.

Well, I wear a lot of big, lose camp shirts so concealability isn't too much of a problem. Lifting the shirt up quickly for draw shouldn't be difficult either. So I suppose my main concern would be with comfort and retention.

E-mail sent with a couple of suggested styles, photos, and prices.

Let me know if I can do anything for you.

I carry my M&P9, which is the same size, in a Don Hume H721OT. It's leather, hides well under a sweatshirt and is good quality and price. Check out their web site. If you order one it takes about a week to get it.

After doing a lot of searching around, I too went with the DeSantis Speed Scabbard pancake style open top holster.

It took about two weeks of having the gun a plastic bag, in the holster, for the damn thing to loosen up sufficiently.

I'm still looking at the Crossbreed holster for IWB carry.

I always had good luck with a Galco Concealable for a SIG 226. A pancake style holster with 1 1/2" belt loops.

Very comfortable.

+1 for the Galco Concealable. Or if you need the thumb-break, the Galco FLETCH! Made in the USA!

TXBug,

The last one on your list is the one I bought from Smith & Wesson. It's made by DeSantis. I like the way it feels so far.

I bought one myself a while back, that is why I put it on the list. I like the fit, the color and the S&W emblem. It fits the 9mm, .40 and the .45, possibly the .357 SIG. The price was not so bad. I'm glad you like it.

If you ever want another holster, Don Hume is great for the price. I carried one for years on the job.

I bought this for tortilla my Colt 1911.
Why ?..
1)it's lined..if you ever want to strip the finish off your pistol let me know . I'll let you use my unlined bianchi holster. It won't take long
2) I got it with belt slots sized to fit my belt. which means a much more secure fit. The grip is always at the same angle and in the same position ..which means when I put my hand to were the grip should be it is..I don't have to look or fumble around on the draw.

I bought this allegiance for my nickle plated S&W model 19 with the stag grips and a Tyler T ...
why?
good golly just look at it

+1 for the FLETCH. I use one for my fullsize M&P40 and despite being relatively thin I can conceal the pistol underneath an untucked polo shirt. It's not deep cover, but unless you looked really closely and knew that I was carrying it would be tough to see.

Asked on another section of this forum.

My S&W Chiefs Special CS9 isn't listed on too many holster manufacturer's web sites. For those that may have the CS9 or CS40, what other S&W model has a similar configuration, size, and shape that will allow my CS9 to fit comfortably. Fwiw, I am looking for OWB, no snap or thumbbreak, just a snug fit.

Thanks

DeSantis Speed Scabbard

Carry my M&P 40 on details and off duty carry....comfortable to wear...you can order from S&W....with S&W logo. Get leather...
