I just bought a new Sport from the recommendations from several forum members since this is my first AR type rifle and I am looking for a scope and possibly a light for the Sport. I have searched the forum about scopes but I can't seem to find out what I am looking for.I am on a fixed income, on Medicare, so not a lot of money, but I want something worth putting on the rifle. I will mainly use it for target shooting but the eyes are getting bad and I need some type of scope. Any information would appreciated Thanks

You can get a Mueller 4.5-14 AO Tactical:

You can get either scope for close to $150 if you shop around.

If it were me, I'd get the Nikon.

I would suggest a Nikkon pro staff .223 with the bullet drop reticle. It goes for around $200 and seems highly regarded.

For a budget light setup that is ergonomic and works without changing your handguards.... you could go for a streamlight polytac $35, a Midwest industries FSB picatinny light mount ( $35) and some sort of 1" weaver ring to complete the setup. That would get you going with relatively quality stuff for less than some folks pay for the light alone :)

heres an example of this type of setup.........there are so many ways to go about this!

I put a Nikon P223 3-9 X 40 BDC scope on my Sport AR and it's a great scope for the money. I paid $199.00 for it. Check Primary Arms they carry low cost scopes and red dot sights that are very well made for what they charge. Their customer service is top notch. I have two of their red dot scopes and they work great. You'll love the Sport AR!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Primary Arms, Red Dot Sights, Holosights, Rifle Scopes, Sights and Accessories. More than 90 brands in stock! Trijicon, EOTECH, Magpul and More!

Another vote for the Nikon P223 3-9x40. I put one on my ArmaLite and am extremely happy with it.

I'll leave the telescopic optics recommendation to others. I have no experience with them on center-fire rifles. An affordable light, that I can do.

I mounted a S&W Micro90 LED onto my 15-Sport. I have a Magpul MOE handguard with a Magpul Scout mount.

The light is easy to turn on and off, momentary or constant. In this configuration, the scout mount lines up my thumb with the light controls in harmony with the way I like to hold my rifle.

The S&W Micro90 can be found for $35. It throws out a bright beam.

I have Bushnells on 3 of my rifles including my Sport...they are way less expensive and perform very well. +1 on the Bushnell, I live on VA disability so I understand the fixed income thing.

I finally receive my Nikon P223 3X9 today. Looks good, just the right size for the rifle. I also added the BCM gunfighter 4 and a viking 2 point sling tonight along with the scope. Can't wait for the weekend.

I am leaning toward the Nikon P-223 do most of you use the P series mount with the 826 rings?

I use a Burris PEPR mount on both of my AR's. If you shop around, you can find them for less than $70.

I used the "Nikon P-Series 2-Piece Scope Mount Picatinny Style With integral 1" Rings Flattop AR-15 Matte" which retail for around $50.

What ever rings you choose, make sure you get the offset type or you will have difficulty getting the proper eye relief.

Don't have a light on my M&P 15, still have the factory handguard, but I put a Surefire 6P flashlight in a 1" ring and mounted it on the lower front of my M&P 15-22, along with a Bushnell 1.75X5 scope.

While it's not the best light option it is very cheap and effective (at least I've had no problems yet). I use a streamlight polytac mounted on an elzetta 1500 fsb mount.

The polytac is not an upgradeable flashlight, but does come out of the box with a c4 led, uses cr123 batteries, and has a 3 hour runtime with an output of 120-130 lumens. The major caveat for the polytac is the size of the body, it is not a 1 inch diameter (I think 0.8 inch diameter) so a layer or two of the stretchy electrical tape is a good idea for a secure mount (on most flashlight mounts).

The elzetta 1500 is awesome (for me). the sport is a carbine gas system on a 16 inch barrel so there is a lot of barrel hanging out of the handguard. The elzetta mount allows the flashlight to be mounted far out front (further than the typical offset or scout mounts). I don't see an issue with barrel shadow, it is there but not obstructive (only if you had your barrel buried in someones chest the shadow would block their face) other than that at room distances your irons will be close to the top of the focused beam (barrel shadow a few feet above that!

Not the BEST, but a cheap and effective solution for a flashlight and mount (about 50-60 for light and mount) especially if your using plastic handguards!

I looked at scopes this weekend and ended up buying the Leupold Mark AR 3-9x40. I did look at the Nikon P models but was not impressed with the glass clearity. The Redfield scope next to it which I already owned one was alot clearer. You could check out PrimaryArms brand scopes which I have also owned and can say the glass is amazingly clear for the price. Happy Hunting!

I went as cheap and practical as I could on my light set up. I went with a moe handguard to mount a light to, plus it had the heat shield I wanted over the stock Sport shield less ones. Then I got the $9 scout light mount to mount my TLR-1 on (of course now I need to get another TLR to put back on my Glock).
I did not go very cheap on my scope and mount though, Burris TAC 30 in a Larue quick release. But it's my go-to gun now for anything that goes after my family, goats or chickens!

I would recommend the Primary Arms microdot. I purchased one, plus the mount for around $180. It is accurate out to 300 yards (with good eyes and a good zero), is excellent for up close work, is rugged, good battery life, an co-witnesses very well.
