I've browsed all the relevant gun shops online and would appreciate your thoughts on a simple, low-cost maintenance tool to maintain my AR-15. Here are the ones that tempt me; all have 4.6+ user ratings:

Wheeler Delta - Mid $20s
Gun Too Pro - High 30s
Real Avid Gun Tool CORE - High 30s
Real Avid The Gun Tool $20

I won't me doing any gunsmithing obviously but might have to tighten some screws and scrape some gunk.

It's been 52 years since I was handed one of these things to make my way in Vietnam and all I recall about the M-16 was pushing in the takedown pin so you could clean the thing!

Your help would be super.

Thanks.

If you have a minute, take a look at the $20 Real Avid "The Gun Tool". I found it on Amazon. Looks too good to be true and has pretty solid reviews. Maybe I shouldn't be wasting your time for 20 bucks!!! :D

Found a Better Tool, I think

Thanks for the advice I received but did a little more research. Optics Planet has the "Real Avid Gun Tool Pro - AR15" at a very attractive price, and they give you another 5% off, so from $60 I ended up at less than $49. (To get free shipping I add some $3 hearing protectors which I can always use). It's AR-15 specific so no shotgun choke wrenches, which I can live without. I busted my budget but think this was a wiser choice.

UPDATE

Something odd is happening at Optics Planet. Ordered the Real Avid tool on October 10th. Have received 4 messages since that the item has been "shipped" and by that they mean in the warehouse ready to be packed. Impossible to talk to anybody. Anybody else having a challenge with these folks?

Your current problem, along with other issues with them, is exactly why I quit doing business with OP several years ago.

OP keeps getting more frustrating. Another msg last evening that it will be shipped in 1-3 days, as they have said all along. I tried to log in to check status of my order and the msg back was that there is no information on my order number and shipping ZIP!!!

Seriously, OP does not deserve your support, ever.

Cancelled Order at Optics Planet

Last straw. After repeated "stock" replies about how sorry they are for no shipment status, I pulled the plug on these people and requested that my order be cancelled and that I be refunded.

What do you know? I got a reply from a "real people" with a name who cancelled my order and promised to refund.

15 days of this was more than I needed!!

I got my Real Avid Gun Tool Pro - AR15 at Cabela's. No break on price, but I will NOT argue about $uch a small price difference.

NICE tool, and worth every cent. Very well made. No complaints here... :D

Is this tool worth it for $35 ???

[ame="https://www.amazon.com/ZJZ-Outdoor-exercise-tool/dp/B08BFLMDT5/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=ar+wrench+combo+tool&qid=1603981701&sprefix=ar+wrench&sr=8-4"]Outdoor exercise tool - - Amazon.com[/ame]

They seem to make the same tool in carbon steel for $6 less.

But there is no explanation as to what the tool all does on an AR.

Optical Planet doesn't warehouse much, once they make a sale the item is fgenerally shipped from a supplier warehouse. So they are typically late to ship in the best of times.
My last purchase with them, several years ago involving a red dot for a Ruger 9mm carbine, took 5 weeks from order to delivery.
Cheaper is not always less expensive.

There are two slightly different Real Avid Gun Tool Pro devices. The one on Amazon is the RAGTP. The other is the RAGTP-AR15 and as the name suggests is designed for your AR15. Amazon doesn't sell the AR15 device. You can find them for 50 bucks at the NEW Store + shipping or Cabela's for same price in the store.
