I found another internet scammers tying to con people by representing guns they don't own and wanted to pass along a warning to everyone.
This scammer is working Armslist. I hope that I don't upset anyone by posting the link but I think everyone should know to avoid this person.

ARMSLIST - For Sale: New Smith & Wesson 44 Spl, 3rd Model, Model of 1926

These pictures are taken from George Wimer's website. I have contacted him and he still has this gun in his possession.

Watch out ... there are plenty of thieves and liars out there.

Hold On

Another interesting post. Armslist had a mod 27 3.5 with ivory grips listed thursday night for 800.00 Slept on it and the next morning it was listed as scamm. Lo and behold yesterday it was listed on GB for 3500.00 INFLATION. Signs of the times

Armslist

Amen Brother... I have inquired about guns on Armslist for things like more pixs or info and have not got a response back or "just send me the money". Most of the time the gun is underpriced and my greed gets the best of me.. Be careful..

I have bought out of state on arms list but only after lots of talking and additional pictures. Still I held my breath until it arrived at my ffl.
Be careful.

Sent from my Motorola Flip phone.

Have you reported it to Armslist?
That should be the first thing you do. It is very fast and easy to do. See the pic below of the ad.

That 3500.00 ad on GB for that pre 27 with the Ivories is Legit..>Well Known seller...But, Glad you slept on the 800 dollar offer could have been an expensive Lesson...I hate Scammers...

Sounds like a Guy on the forum tonight might be having some trouble with a 686 2.5 incher...Hopefully its legit and it works out for the guy

Saw one here 4-5 months ago on Armslist. They had a 4" Python listed cheap enough to really get your interest but not arouse indtant suspicion. Posting claimed they were in Arizona.

But Armslist took more than a week to respond to a gun offered with my photos the I had sold. I flagged it, the guy that brought it to my attention flagged it, GunsInternational flagged it; Armslist was unresponsive.
caveat emptor, in spades…
I wonder how many times that rifle was sold???

I think that all of the guns that I have been interested in on Arms List have been scams. I always google a sentence or phrase of the description and most of the time I find the legit gun listed on a legit website from the real owner - with the same photos. I always let AL know and usually in a day or so, there is a Scam Alert posted on the listing.

There have been some "great deals" that I am glad that I passed up on AL.

Good luck and be cautious,

Scammers gonna scam.

Armslist's real flaw is the lack of any feedback system.

But still, I have gotten 2 great deals listed on Armslist. One was local and the other was from an FFL that I could verify and that sent additional pictures I requested.

People in the past have contacted me to sell me a gun that I mention I maybe looking for not here but at other sights were I back off. My gut feeling has me in disbelief. I'm afraid sometimes. It's not just s&w guns.

Scammers LOVE Python's,The market is so hot that they get sucker after sucker......

I just reported a scammer on the colt forum. He tried to sell me a Colt Official Police NYST stamped. I am retired from there trying to purchase all the revolvers we carried. Got all the S&W's. Anyways he went by coltmobman, said he is sellinf for his friend who isn't computer savvy. He even PM me. I asked for photo's and 4 days later he sent me two, none showing the NYST. I asked again & got one immediately sent me one with a complete different background. I asked specific questions includingbwho his FFL was. He said that i was making him uncomfortable & told me to call the owner who was on tour in Africa. He also gave me some weird international number. I later found the picture,s on the internet from two different people. If i can't talk to someone, no deal. I also told him he was a phony. BTW hhis posts are removed.

I have mentioned this before, but beware of any seller who wants payment via Western Union. It's a sure sign of a scam, as the WU payment is untraceable.

My wife and I recently purchased an Irish Setter puppy out of state. In reading through suggestions posted online about how to be secure with a long distance online purchase, one of the suggestions was to have the seller send you a photo of the item with a note next to it bearing your name. Most of the time the scammer won't go to the trouble of trying to use photoshop or some other software and will merely back away.

In our case, she sent the photo of the puppy with our names on a piece of paper and eventually the pup arrived in Boston safe and sound.

I was thinking along similar lines. You could ask the seller to send a photograph of the gun laying on today's newspaper or the like.

Someone with a lot of skill might be able to photoshop that, but to get the shadows etc just right would probably be way beyond the powers of your typical scammer.
