I bought a box of 44 mag 240 jsp yesterday. Loaded up my 29, fire 3 rounds and it locked up. Opened the cyl, found a shell sticking out just a hair, ejected all the shells. The shell that was stuck out had split on both sides all the way from one end to the other. Tried my reloads, tried some federal. They worked fine. That is the second time in the last year or so Ive bought winchester ammo. The last time I had a round that would not chamber in my blackhawk. Took it home, and pulled both bullets out ofit, yea it had a second in backwards. I will not buy anymore winchester ammo.

I recently had a bad box of WWB .357s. They sent a label for pick up and sent me a check that easily covered replacement.

I've spent enough time acting as Safety Officer at my gun club that I've seen issues with Winchester, Federal, Remington, handloads, etc. I'm just saying that if you put enough lead down range, you will find sub-standard cartridges of any brand.

glad you posted this thread, I myself noticed that win. white box 40sw brass is lighter and thinner lately, not the headstamps that say winchester but the ones that just say WIN. all other brass looks fine. and they do way about 9-10 grains lighter. hummmmm interesting.
also most of the "kabobs" that have been posted is with winchester white box ammo purchased at walmart.

Sorry to hear about your mishap. Glad it wasn't serious. Seems like quality control has gone south for a lot of manufacturers these days.

An LEO friend of mine told me last night that they (he's a range master/FI) are removing all their Winchester from service on an expedited basis and not buy any - QC has gone south recently.

Doug M. is on to something. With all of the heavy demand, I suspect quality control had declined just a bit. I've had minor issues with the big three. I don't reload, but I'm guessing that is the only sure way to minimize QC issues.

I just got back into shooting and reloading. Shooting a Model 29 with mostly handloads. Bought a box of the same Winchesters a couple of weeks ago. So far they have shot well with no split cases, etc. Also seem to be pretty accurate shooting steel at 50 - 100 yards. My biggest complaint is that it shots "dirty" to me. Bought a box of Remington 180 gr JSP tonight. Going to see how that shoots.
