Read on another forum that a guy was having issues with his new BG 2.0, FTE or whatever. Says he called SW CS and he was told to clean it and fire more rounds as it has a 500 round break in period??

I have never heard of such nonsense and it's not in the manual.
Ever come across this??

Nope. Both my BG2.0's have about 200 trouble-free rds each through them so far.

What ammo was that guy using? If it's Winchester White Box, I'm not surprised, it is dreadfully underpowered. I use Fioochi as my 32 and 380 practice ammo, and S&B (usually) for 9mm. Too much weak sauce stuff around these days.

I've put about 200 rounds through mine, both FMJ and XTP JHP. Not one FTE, FTF, or any other problem.

Like with anything, there's gonna be a defect rate. Also, some will need to be broken in more than others...

I've seen one other instance where someone was having FTF issues. Generally though, people aren't having issues.

With anything at this price point, QC issues here and there will pop up. The real problem however is when S&W customer care is less than helpful.

Could be he got a bad one or one that needs more break in than others.

Could also be a combination of weak ammo, a not-firm-enough grip, needing oiling (why Glock used to use that copper grease on the slide rails before shipping) and/or tight new springs.

He used a lot of premium ammo

My question was about SW CS giving him the BS of 500 rd break in. At least that's what he said they said,

Here's the thing: for him, it might actually be CS BS about a bad one that slipped through QC.

For most people, it may not be BS. It may take some rounds for the gun to work reliably with cheap underpowered ammo. Or for people to figure out how to grip the gun properly or realize it needs oiling.

This does come into play more than you might think.
My favorite personal anecdote about that involved doing a class where 2 of the guys were both ~6'4" and having malfunctions with their Glock 21s.

I did a mag dump with each of their pistols and told them, "It's your grip technique. If I can do this with my hands [holds up smedium hand], you can do this with your hands."

It's not uncommon. I think it's Kahr, that literally has it in there manual.

use to work in a shop and I'd estimate about 90% percent of "my New gun is malfunctioning I need to send it back" problems disappeared after shooting it a bit more. Sometimes it was springs that needed to be worked some more cycles, sometimes it may have been a slightly rough edge or burr that needed to wear in, sometimes it was shooting technique, sometimes it just needed to be broken down and lubed.

The copper Glock grease accelerates this process.

Kahr yes, but I've owned a ton of S&Ws and not a one of them required a "break in" period. Just saying....

I've owned S&W pistols since the original M39 and after 50yrs not a single one needed a break-in period including my two new BG2.0's.

I have 250 rounds of FMJ and 50 Critical Defense through my BG 2.0. I cleaned and lubed it before each range trip and haven’t had any issues so far.

I found the post on another forum to which the OP is referring. Strikes me that the guy implies he didn't clean and lube the gun before going to the range. Yes, I know certain YouTube reviewers do this and mostly get away with it, but that is a user failure to me.
