a completly different spring from S&W for the bg 2.0.

I dont recall seeing one anywhere. Somewhere in this forum is a post about how I (I think) and others (of that I am sure of, I read it) about how they deal with this issue.

I am not having any problems with the spring that came with the gun. It's not the big deal a lot of people are making it out to be.

The end of the spring at the guide rod cap is twisted. That makes uneven contact with the seating collar inside of the front of the slide. Attempting to install the guide rod assembly will cause the spring to bind and the rear guide rod cap cannot be seated into the slot on the rear of barrel lug.

The other condition is the end of the spring can slip from under the guide rod cap. That will also prevent the end of the guide rod to be seated into the collar of the slide.

There have been reports that the end of the spring has slipped over the guide rod cap and jammed the slide during operation.

It took 16 days to receive a new guide rod assembly from S&W Customer Service in August of 2024. It was exactly the same part.

I did my own "gunsmithing" to fix one guide rod by removing the main spring, cutting 3/8" off the end of the twisted spring, and cut 3/8" off the rear of the spring. That fixed my guide rod spring assembly.

This seems like a failed design and I have not read about a corrected replacement from S&W.

My Sig P365 has a washer under the guide rod cap.

Galloway Precision offers a replacement guide rod. I tried one but it would not allow the slide to go into full battery, so I returned it. Others have reported that they work great.

See attached photos.

Mine occasionally acts up, but pulling back on the spring allows the misbehaving end to be pushed back under the end cap.
One the recoil spring is installed in the gun, the hole in the slide acts like a washer, keeping the spring from escaping.
I'll order a spare recoil spring someday soon (like to have a spare).
My only ongoing problem is magazines not all holding the advertised number of rounds.

They (the mags) will, you just have to push like hell, preferably with a uplula, to get the last round in. Load'em full and let them sit for a couple weeks, that might help

Mine (the mags) will NOT allow any more than 9 in the 10-round mag and 11 in the 12-round mag. There is virtually zero space left to compress the spring. Having the mags loaded sitting since August 2024 and shooting my BG2 once or twice a month has not affected the mags in any way that is noticeable.

About every 6th trip the range I will disassemble, clean and lube my mags (except my Colt 1911). which makes loading with the UpLULA a little easier.

I'm eagerly waiting for MagGuts to release a +2 kit https://magguts.com/

Please go to their website and help light a 3-foot high fire.

When I purchased my first, sent email to SW and explained the issue with the recoil spring, got a replacement in the mail about a week later. Works fine.
I suppose I lucked out on the mags, have 2-10 rounders and 4-12 rounders. Left them loaded for a bit. After a few range trips they all load to capacity (using uplula) and no issues..

One thing I noticed when I bought a new BG II over a month ago was how far the recoil guide stuck out past the slide. The images of older BG's didn't seem to have that, but I never looked at one in person. I've never seen a recoil guide stick out of any gun this much and actually thought mine was seated incorrectly. I've only shot mine once and disassembled it a few times but haven't had any issues. Maybe this was part of the change, but it sure doesn't look right.

You can see how much it sticks out in the pic below.

The guide rod end cap is designed with a knurled pin that seats into the front end of the guide rod using contact pressure.
That, in my worthless opinion, is a serious design flaw. It should have been a threaded pin into the guide rod.
If that end cap has moved outward even a fraction of inch, I will contact S&W and request a new guide rod.
So far, at just over 300 rounds, that cap on the main guide rod spring assembly, it has not moved.
