I have my BG380 EAF75XX that I picked up 12-17-10. I have put approx 200+ rounds thru it and have an odd issue. Every once and a while maybe like 4 times out of 50 rds, the slide will lock when there is still ammo in the mag. The gun does not try to load the next round, no round caught on the feed ramp or anything like that. It simply locks as if the weapon is out of ammo. Re-rack finish out mag and reload, fire the next 6 no issue. I am thinking that it is most likely a grip issue but I am unsure. I am trying to obtain a second mag so I can rule out possible mag issues. Does anyone else have this problem or any insight to my problem.
Thanks in advance

It is possible that the hook on the slide stop that is supposed to be engaged by the magazine follower when the magazine is empty may be a little long and catching on the bullet of the next round in the magazine. Next time it happens look very closely to see if there is any clearance between the bullet and slide stop. I have seen this on more than one small frame automatic.

If this is what is happening simply stone the hook to remove any burrs and possibly shorten it a few thousandths of an inch, not over .005.

Problem

A friend of mine had a similar problem with a non S&W pistol. We finally figured out that his thumb was activating the slide stop when he fired the gun. He learned a new hold and made a conscious effort to keep his thumb away from the slide stop and the problem ceased. Next time you shoot the gun, pay attention to where you place your thumb, and maybe you may be doing the same thing my friend did.

Most likely a grip issue. Examine your grip and consider what your thumb will do under recoil, and if it will contact the slide stop. Fix as necessary.

Thanks for the replies. I will check on the slide stop clearance next time it happens. I doubt my thumb is hitting the slide stop as I shoot left handed. I should have mentioned that in the first post.

I had this happen once with my BG380 in 1000 rounds or so. I didn't notice it until I went to reload the magazines and discovered that one magazine still had a round in it. In my case, I have to suspect that it was a momentary glitch in my grip (bumping the magazine release button).
