I bought a used Bianchi X2100 Phantom S&W .44 holster for my 6" M25-5. And while I really like the holster, it has WAY too much tension, and extraction of any revolver put in it is difficult. Any way to reduce the amount of tension?

Bianchi 2100 Holster

I was handed an X 2100 when I bought a S&W Mod 29. Now I know why. It is clamshell spring loaded (metal covered with leather). Even if a revolver (large N frame) can be inserted in the holster safely (keep your finger away from the trigger and watch the hammer) it is difficult to remove. About all I can think of is to pry it open (empty) and maybe bend it back. That probably won't work if it is real spring steel. There is no visable adjustment screw. Probably best to get a different model that works. It will wear heavily on any blued revolver and if your try to draw it it and it is attached to your belt then it will result in a "wedgy".

I don't have the X2100. I do, however, have the X15, which works the same way. I carry a 6"629, and a 5.5" New Service in it. I find that if I pull up slightly on the gun, as if I was going to draw it in a normal fashion, and then out and down, as the holster was designed for, it works pretty good. I bought it 5 years ago for 40 bucks brand new on e-bay, and couldn't believe how strong the spring was. It's loosened up a tad, but even if I fell down a steep hill, I wouldn't need the retaining strap. (I still use it, though)

I called Bianchi today. They said the X2100 was last made in 1988, and the retention spring is no longer made or available. They suggested that it may loosen up with use, but I've got my doubts.
