My home here in Southern California is in escrow and we bought a house outside Denver today. If everything goes well I will be in CO during the first week of September. Looking forward to the change and new lifestyle. Bud

Welcome to Colorado. Get ready for the California jokes when you move in. I guess if your posting here you must be ok. If you like revolvers check out the gun room and green Mtn gins in Lakewood.

Will do. I am a revolver guy and will be adding after I get there for me and my girlfiend.

FYI, my Dad lived just outside in Bennet for many years. The day he moved in his vehicle was broken into and stuff he was moving in still was stolen and never recovered. A month later his Harley was stolen from his fenced in backyard. He worked as an electrician for the VA med center in Denver. I guess he made it through his warm welcome. I can only hope it is a little better these days.

Bud, I can understand your excitement! I was in the Air Force for over 22 years and moving to a new place was always something I looked forward to. This is such a big, wonderful country. I always told the younger "troops" to get out and look for the things they enjoyed doing and they would find them. Too many of them would sit in their rooms and complain because they were in a different place, away from home and the things they were familar with. I loved everyplace I was ever stationed! :) The only place I wouldn't want to live in retirement, however, in California!

Well you missed the good country by about a 100 miles, but welcome to the area anyway. The first thing you need to get, even before a new revolver, is long underwear for you and your girlfriend. Cheyenne Frontier Days is over and it can snow at any time.

Bud-when you get settled in I will take you shooting at my gun club if you would like. You might want to join depending on where you live. You can also get a ccw pretty easily.

I'm just a visitor to Denver area a couple times a year to visit my daughter & family. Good indoor range (and gun store) at "The Firing Line". There's another indoor range with a 100 yard (underground) indoor range in the Lakewood area. Also the Cherry Creek State Park has a decent outdoor range for handgun & rifle, and they have some trap/skeet also i believe. At Bennet another poster mentioned there used to be a nice Sporting Clays range i hav shot on. Also, the gun shows at the Merchandise Mart nearly every month. (I always have to talk my wife into going at Christmas time to coincide with the gun show).

Get the California plates off your vehicles ASAP.

I lived in Louisville (outside of Boulder) for three winters. Getting out your longjohns is only a start. You gots to winterize everything out there.
I had to put my motorcycle away from November to May - that was the final straw.

Good luck,

Bruce

Congratulations and Good Luck to You.

I did the move from NJ to Montana back in 1979. Never regretted it.

I'll remember that Iggy. My girfriend made the rodeo this year and I'm sure I'll make in next year. Also have ranch land near Casper so I will be in WY also. Bud

Thanks Jim! I'll be in Castle Rock.

Bud11, Well you cain't hardly git to Casper without goin' across our place. Watch for the cowboy on the hill south of Chugwater.

Bud11,

Check out the Ben Lomond gun club when you get here BLGC Home Page
There are various shooting clubs that use the facility as well, USPSA, cowboy action. It is a bit of a hike but a direct route east of Castle Rock and it sure beats the heck out of any indoor range, JMHO.

Good luck and welcome.

And let me suggest you not try to tell them how you used to do it in Kali. They don't care and don't want to hear it. In fact, if you attempt to tell them, they won't listen to anything else you try to tell them in the future.

And listen to Iggy. Get a map and figure out what 100 miles west would land you. That would be much better! :)

Thanks. That place looks great! Bud

Welcome to Colorado. Please enjoy your move and dont change a damn thing. This is the standard greeting here. We are quite comfortable living the way we do and arent interested in people moving into our humble state and then trying to change it into the same place they left. Have a snowball fight with the neighbor kids, go fishing and release your catch, and most important cheer for a good football team (the Broncos of course).

Yes; Get the Calif. plates off your car quick. I learned that when I moved to Oregon 8 years ago. My mother lived in Denver on So. Grant St. Visited many times. Cops shot a gas station holdup guy in her back yard a few years back. Don't like the traffic on I-25 at all.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Bud

Yes, off to DMV as quiclky as I can. I'll be in Castle Rock and don't plan to fight the I-25 if I don't have to. But, after 30 years in Los Angeles before recently moving to the CA dersert, it didn't look all that bad. Bud
