Biking the C&O Canal Towpath from Lock 75 to Canal Place in Cumberland Maryland

My best friend and I started planning a trail/train trip for this October with our wives. Ride our bikes down stream until we feel like riding the train back to the car park. There are train stops about every 3 miles and surprisingly, bars and restaurants at the same locations. I'm sure we will stay well hydrated!!!

That sounds like a great time.
Just keep ridin' 'till you don't feel like going further, get a beer and something to eat then ride a train back.
Works for me.

Back in the day as Scoutmaster, we did the whole C&O Canal thing from Cumberland to downtown Washington DC at the bottom end. Some hiking, some biking, some canoeing in different legs and outings. Lotta fun, lotta memories too.

Back in my Scouting days, I hiked a section of the towpath. Never did finish the whole thing.

These days, I try to avoid gun unfriendly Maryland.
That's when I first learned about the Towpath, back in my Boyscout days.

A buddy and I did the entire length once before. Took us a coupla trips with overnight camping.

My wife and I are planning on taking the bikes on out to Canal Place in Cumberland and continuing from there. It's a section of trail I have yet to set foot or Frankenbike's kevlar beaded knobbies on.

Pit stop...and cigars!

You were in my 'hood!

When you do the continuation trip please let me know. You can park your truck at my house (if you haul your bikes/gear) and I will equip you with sufficient cigars to get you wherever you're heading.

Be safe.

Where 'bout you located? How do you feel about being on YouTube?
We already have a parking area scoped out for today's excursion. It's right at Canal Place where the GAP trail starts (or ends?).
I've got both the video camera and my Garmin watch charged and ready to go.
Now we just gotta get our behinds up and get going.

So soon?

Did not expect the next excursion was quite this soon. Was outta the 'hood when I posted last night. Just back as I write this.

We shall catch up soon...I hope!

Cheers!

Be safe.

Ended up we didn't get the bikes out.
We're still dealing with the insurance company of the idiot that sped through a stop sign, around a blind left turn and totaled our truck.

After we were finished for today, it was getting a bit late.
Instead, we went for a nice hike in the mountains.
That's okay though, there's still plenty of biking weather left.

Cannot wait.

Gonna be fun to meet Mr. and Mrs. Snubby Fan! There will be 'film at 11.' With cigars... Cheers!

Speaking of 'street money,' I am reminded of a need for a mid-year report. Stand by...it will be late next week...with a full accounting. :D

Be safe.

That should be interesting.
Skinny Injun, Italian spouse and a guy who financed
his 'Vette with street change found money!

Looks like it may be a while before we continue our bike ride out from Canal Place.
My camera's broken.
I've been doing a section by section video series.
Once I get a video camera I can mount to Frankenbike's handle bars, I can continue the series.
