What's at least as interesting, are the comments of one of the bloggers. He related that all the combinations of the first twelve moves were memorized by chess masters. After twelve moves the move combinations become astronomical, and impossible to memorize.

I knew that the mid-end game strategies were very complicated, but was unaware of the reasons why. Fascinating stuff!
