Bird nesting is in full swing here on the Northern Neck of Virginia, on our property we have two pairs of Mockingbirds nesting, and two Bluebird boxes occupied with Bluebirds "Being Fruitful"....
Had a rare visitor to the feeder today, a Red Grosbeak, we've seen them before, but definately not common. Red Grosbeaks migrate to Central America and Mexico for the Winter, then come up North to nest. This one may have been just stopping by for a bite to eat, or nesting in the woods:
Mockingbird babys, about ten days old, soon they'll be out of the nest and on the ground, with Momma teaching them how to hunt and fly:
Last year we had a terrible problem with crows raiding the nests, very few nests were successful. We actually had a crow destroy a bird house to get at the eggs or babys. This year, fewer crows, more baby birds.
