I use it on woodpeckers when they attack my house. They fly away and never come back.
My in laws raise exotic birds. My mother in law uses the 22 LR shotshells to shoot mice in the bird houses. She has used the old ones on the crimped 22 LR cse and the new Speer shotshells I gave her with good results.
I have shot a lot of Speer shotshells in my handguns with no ill effects.

I'm guessing you're not talking about real owls, but the owl statues. I have used them in the hangar and the purple finches are not bothered by them at all. I would get out the BB gun during nesting season. Shot shells would have been more effective but the noise is prohibitive. I just sold my Remington 580 smooth bore this weekend, and I am already regretting it. It gave me a 12" group at 25 yards with the crimped ammo out of the SB rifle barrel. I hope the new owner is happy, as it is very effective on small birds. I would not say that where a hand gun in concerned.
We had a pack rat hanging out near our "privy" in Wyoming last year. One CCI shotshell from my 317-1 and the pack rat was dead as a door knob.

I always had good luck with the CCI shotshells (at close range) from revolvers, not so much with a Ruger Mk-II, which sometimes required loading from the open chamber.

I have a Remington Model 572 SB and shoot crimped rat shot. Can't wait for Spring to get here so I can hold some carpenter bee and dragon fly shoots. About 20' maximum on the fly. Well. I will shoot flies, wasps, hornets, etc. too. Lots of fun.
Lethal on rats, mice, snakes out to about 10 ft.
