Reminded me of a quote about philosophy, often attributed to the 19th c. English judge, Charles Bowen:
The philosopher is likened to a 'blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat that is not there.'
(My favourite quote by Lord Bowen, though, is "The rain it raineth on the just / And also on the unjust fella. / But chiefly on the just because / the unjust steals the just's umbrella" Very appropriate given the weather here right now.)
