Who enjoys the Ruger’s Blackhawk?

This is my .45 New Model convertible. I enjoy it’s versatility muchly. I can fire government ball loads made for the Colt’s automatic, all the way up to full power +P .45 Colts.

I have purchased a holster and slide for the piece recently from El Paso Saddlery and await its delivery. I’ve owned this gun for a few years now and am always very pleased with its accuracy and joy in firement.

I have one in 44 Special, and a pair of convertibles, 9mm/357 and 45 acp/45 Colt. I also have a Single Six Magnum in 32 H&R. I like the guns and they are in use often around here. I can't get my mitts to fit factory grips so they all wear something else. I also have replaced all of the factory base pins on the BH's with the locking style Belt Mountains.

I used to own a Super BH but feel my needs in 44 magnum are better filled with a Contender and a 4" Model 69.

You have a fine looking revolver.

I like the Blackhawks but only in the old 3-screw version. I just never learned to like the 2-pin action even though it is safer. I have a 1958 .44 Flat Top, a 1971 4 3/4” .45 and a heavily modified old Super Blackhawk. They are good looking, reliable and powerful. What’s not to like?

My first centerfire handgun was an Old Model (3 screw) 4 5/8" .45 Colt Blackhawk, bought for me by my mom in 1973. Since then, I've owned a number of BHs.

I currently have a 4 5/8" NM .45 Colt/.45 ACP; a Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum that has been cut to 4 5/8" and fitted with a Bisley grip frame; a 1955 Flattop .357-4 5/8" of course, the only option at the time; and another OM .357 that has been converted to a 4 5/8" .44 Special.

We have a convertible 22lr/22mag, a 38/357/9mm and a SBH. Great guns with superb balance, pointing, accuracy and with their grip design they soften recoil very much.

I am not a huge single action fan, but still have these 2 remaining Blackhawks:

4 5/8” Bisley 44 spl - Lipseys exclusive
3 5/8” Vaquero Sheriffs model 45 Colt/45acp 1 of 1000, an Accusport exclusive from 2000

Muley Gil, we need pictures of all, especially the modified Super Blackhawk!

For a single action revolver the Ruger Blackhawk is my favorite. Bought mine, a 357, in 1971, been with me 53 years! It’s the first handgun I bought, was 21 years old.
I like shooting 38 Special, lower recoil and great accuracy!
Happy Shooting Friends!

My very first centerfire handgun was a .45 Colt Ruger Blackhawk. I bought it at Bixler's Hardware in Carlisle, PA, probably back in the late 1970s. I started getting involved in Cowboy Action shooting and that was what I used when I started out. As the game changed, I bought another .45 Colt Blackhawk. And since I like shiny guns, when .45 Blackhawks came out in stainless steel I had to get one. And since two handguns were now required for Cowboy Action shooting, I had to buy another .45 Colt Blackhawk in stainless steel so that I would have 2 matched sets. So that way for a weekend match I would use the blued set one day and shoot the stainless set the other day. I still have all four of them.

I've liked and enjoyed Ruger Blackhawks for many years. These are the only two I have at this time; 4 5/8" .357 Magnum and a 6 1/2" .41 Magnum. Both are working guns that I have put many rounds down range with. They have not been converted but Andy Horvath did some trigger work on the 41.

I'll try & dig them all out of the safe and take some pictures.

I have a stainless 7 1/2" Old Army with adjustable sights and a .45 Colt conversion cylinder, plus a stainless Bearcat. I bought a second cylinder for the BC and reamed it to .22 Magnum.

Oh, and I added a 9mm cylinder to the flattop .357.

I have several, some new some old. Here's a few of my favorites.

Three screw 45 Colt with the MR-3DB brass frame

A custom Super Blackhawk with a 5 inch barrel, custom front sight, loaded chamber cut outs, and I added the MR-3DB brass frame because the XR3 frame it came with was too small for my hands. This gun was customized by Bob Baer.
