Blade Tech has a 15% off and free shipping weekend right now. I'd get the DOH for uspsa and if I did IDPA next year it could be converted to be legal pretty easy. I know muscle memory could be an issue but I doubt IDPA would be a regular deal for me (2010 proved I like USPSA more) and, beside, the draw from concealment kind of negates the muscle memory issue for me. Anyway....

Is the BT a general one size fits all N frames?
I've read about the Side Armor but it costs considerably more.
How about a Sooper Hooper?

I just want a good Kydex fit and retention without breaking the bank.

I run the Bladetech DOH and have been very pleased with it. I prefer the stingray belt attachment. I also use 4 of their double moon holders. I like that when the moon is gone there is no post to attract my fingers when looking for the next reload. Some folks don't have a problem with the post type holders, but they are definitely slower for me.

ETA: they let you pick a model number and barrel length, but I have a friend that runs his 5 inch gun in a 4 inch holster with no problems.

In IDPA the most popular is Comp TAC followed closely by Blade Tech. The Super Hooper has the reputation of being faster, if you don't mind waiting for David to make one. He's been busy organizing his state stubby match lately.
I use the Safariland 568 holster for revolvers, but it's not Kydex.

I was looking at the Sooper and can imagine taking a hot knife to my current M&P9L holster to mimic the cutaways. Got some good info from them regarding rules and holster regs!

Waiting is no big deal considering it's arctic temps here, and I'm a newbie revolver shooter so all my speed in terms of holster will be lost in reloads and brain farts.

The speed cut on the Super Hooper holsters is too low on the ones that I have seen to be legal for IDPA if you were wanting one holster to cover several games.

There were 8 KYTAC holster used at the IDPA Nationals this year, including 2 Super Hoopers.

David had to modify his holsters when the April 15, 2005 IDPA rule book was published, and holsters made after that date are IDPA compliant. For the older ones that simply had too much offset, he was making them legal for $20. For the old ones that are just cut too low--sorry.

His web site must be severely outdated. On his web site he has a page describing speed cuts and IDPA rules www
On that page he says that the cut on an auto can be 1/4" below the ejection port and on a revolver it can go to the front of the cylinder. He says some uninformed SO's think that the cut on a revolver can only go 1/2 way down the cylinder.

Even back to the 2001 rule book the exact language in the rule book said 1/2 way down the cylinder so the SO's were not "uninformed".

The newest rule book says..

H. Cutting of the front edge of the holster more that 1¾" below
the breech face on pistols or 1" below the rear of the cylinder
on revolvers.

Hopefully the newest made of his holsters conform to the rules as his old ones, at least for the revolvers, did not conform to the rules even back to 2001.

They are a good looking holster and it always good to get all the advantages you can without getting DQ'ed at an equipment check. Just because a competitor used something at the Nationals doesn't mean that it's right. I see things every year at the Nationals that don't conform to the rule book to include equipment, stages, SO rulings and instructions.
