I am looking for a good quality blaze orange safety vest, one made of quality material that will last. All I am looking for is a vest that will satisfy the orange requirement, not looking for one with pockets etc., just a basic durable vest at a moderate price. Suggestions welcomed.

Might look at Cabellis. I bought their upland vest four years ago and it has seen a lot of use - no wear at all. It does have pockets, but they didn't overdo it on design.

I've used a Filson for several years now. I don't see it on their website right now, but things change pretty frequently over there.

Okie John

You might want to change them out as they become faded. I usually go for the pockets or something, but when they begin to fade they do not stand out as well. So buy what you need for utility, but they are not a lifetime investment.

Go to Ace or other hardware/work clothes outlets and look for a Carhartt safety vest,it's what Dept of highways uses~here:

Carhartt - Product - Men’s High Visibility Class 2 Vest

That's what I bought when I got tired of the el chepo vests I could find locally and didn't really want one of the hunter vests with all the pockets.

If they can't see me in that then I take it as permission to return fire :D

My vote goes to the Filson with the "Ten Mile Cloth". Don't know how reasonable they are now though Bob. Had mine a loooong time.

i think its gamehide or similar but Big5 has them and usually about 14.99 or 19.99 around the fall bird seasons. they are bird game vests but very loose fitting and bright orange.

also check the skeet shooters places, a shotgunning skeet vest can be very nice and comfortable and in teh color you want

lastly if you want cheap price and quality, go to home depot or lowes and get a hiway construction worker one. usually plastic type material

Buy one of those vests with the reflective tape they wear on the survey crews. The reflective tape works real well at night when you get hit with the Q beam. :D

I've got various orange vests for upland and big game hunting and such, but I like the Carhartt version for work around highway ROWs, partly because as Cajun said the reflective striping helps, and partly because it's generously cut so fits over most any outerwear. I think I paid about $30 at Bass Pro Shop or Sportsmans' Warehouse...

I found just what I was looking for at Bass Pro Shops, Red Head Orange Fleece Safety Vest @ $14.95. Thanks to all for the helpful suggestions, I can always count on S&W Forum members to help me find what I am searching for.

You can add a reflective belt seperately if you're going to move around in early morning or evening. Runs about 8 bucks here. Good thing to have in addition to a vest if your new one doesn't have reflective stuff on it.

Wal Mart has started carrying these in my area(dont know if they have them everywhere) They have a nice selection and fair priced.
I used to be the shop manager for a wrecker company,we did roadside service and thats where I bought the ones for my guys.
