Blazer .357 158gr JHP Has anyone Chronographed it?

It is listed at 1150fps. This is a skeeter 38-44 duplication round, in a full length .357 case in a factory loading. I find that very interesting.

I bought 3 boxes at Gander Mountain this week For $24.99 a box. One reason I was looking for it was That It was supposed to be a lighter loading. I was thinking of my Ruger SP 101, and my 3 Inch K frames.

I thought Brass Fetcher might have some data, but they only had the 125gr Gold Dot;

Cartridge : Speer 125 grain Gold Dot hollowpoint (load #23920)

Firearm : .357 Magnum revolver with 4.0" barrel length.

Calibration : 10.0 ± 0.05cm and 591 ± 0.500 ft/sec impact velocity.

Bullet impacted at 1432 ± 0.500 ft/sec, penetrated 16.0 ± 0.031" and out of the block and had a recovered diameter of 0.651 ± 0.0005".

Velocity is pretty much the same as factory Remington 125gr SJHP. I need to do a search at Gunblast, so I'll check for the Blazer ammo too.

I've been using some of this Blazer .357 158gr in my 3" K frames, and my 3 1/6" SP101. I love it. The noise level is much less than full house 357s without that CRACK!! I really don't know what the velocity is, but if it is 1,000 fps or more I'm happy. If anyone gets a chance to chronograph it, I really would appreciate a post here for my benefit and others, as well. Recoil doesn't seem to be at all bad, even with wood grips.

That really wouldn't be off much from factory standard for 158gr which is usually 1250fps. Remington use to load a 125gr medium velocity load at 1250fps as opposed to the regular 1450fps. They do load the 357 Golden Sabers at that.

Well, I tried out my new Chrony Beta Master, today. I am not sure what I am doing, but through several errors, and some readings that were too high to be real, I got some readings that were disturbing. In my three inch M66-3 the .357mag 158gr blazer seems to go only 865 to 875fps. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the Chrony, as some .38s I have with Hornady swaged swchp at standard pressures went apox 840, and some 160 cast swc over 12gr 2400 in .38spl cases went 1135. I am going to study my instruction sheet some more, now that I have some experience, and see if I can understand it a little better.

A couple of things can throw you off on readings, but actual readings will seldom match listed velocites. Most magnum velocities are from 6" barrels and figured at the muzzle, so you can drop 25-50fps per inch of barrel, distance from muzzle-to-chrony, and so on. Your distance could also be a problem if you're too close to your chrony, the muzzle flash can cause an error in it's reading. Then there the old slow gun vs fast gun, I've got 3" guns that regularly shoot faster than 4" guns. All in all if the Blazer is a true 1150fps load I would expect 950-1000fps readings from a 3" gun.
