Hello. I have a new HP laptop running Windows 11. I can't access any shooting sites, getting a message that they are blocked on my computer. Anyone have a suggestion about how to break through?

Does the computer have u-Block Origin software?. If so, you can open the program and add whatever sites you want it to allow. It has a wide prohibition capability, from click-bait ads to porn sites, and you have to modify it for your needs.

If that's not what is causing your issue, it could be a similar program built into W11. Otherwise, I'd sell the computer and get something with W10. Sometimes new is not better.

It's a setting in your antivirus software. Turn off "safe sites" or something like that

I used to work for a municipality that blocked access to the State Lottery Commission (a government agency) website because it wouldn't allow access to "gambling" sites.

How is your laptop accessing the Internet? If you are using someone else's wifi they may have the blocks set up. This is common for many businesses, hospitals and assisted living facilities.

Don't you just love those places that try to control how you think? Really, are they afraid you'll shoot somebody by looking at a website?

Those filters are ridiculous so many times. My time share's filters would block every gun site there was but you could access porn sites with no trouble. After numerous complaints by the owners the filtering system was changed. Just to be clear, the only reason I even tried a porn site was to see if they were blocked like the gun sites, including this one. I made sure management was made aware of this. I don't know if the porn sites are blocked but I do know all the gun forums are no longer blocked.

When I was much younger, I read Playboy for the articles! As an old man, I just peruse guns and porn.

I worked at a division of Olin for a while, and they blocked all sorts of sites about firearms, etc. I pointed out to our division president I thought it was asinine, as Olin owned Winchester Ammo, and at the time the tactical division was making medium and large caliber tank rounds. A number of my co workers had blasters licenses, and we had hundreds of pounds of hydrazine rocket fuel on site. Anyone wanting to do damage had better stuff on-site than anything we could read about on the internet.

IT fixed it the next day.
