My son and I were talking about his Ruger American 45 he just recently bought. At one time Ruger was selling ALL of their handguns with a nice plastic carry box. The one he just bought came in a cardboard box.
So, we started talking about the M&P. We both bought a M&P 2.0 a few months ago and they came in the black plastic box. A friend of ours bought a M&P 2.0 Thursday and it came in a blue box. I bought an Unissued LE M&P .40 this past Wednesday from BUD'S GUNS and it was in a blue box.
If you're like me, you store the box in the closet and use a holster. But, we were just wondering if there is a specific color S&W uses all the time until they run out then use another color box. It's one of those things that makes you go,"Hmmmm......" :D

Seems like they cut costs by ditching the plastic. Fast forward and we'll be getting our new pistols in a paper bag.
If it saves me money they can put it in a paper bag or even no bag. The only time I use the box is when I first buy the gun and take it home and when I sell it. Otherwise they take up space and have no use

My used M&P 40 came in a blue box from 9 years ago as issued to that police department. I'll add to Arik that I often store the unused extras that come with the pistol in the box it came in initially. Other than that, I am with you on it just taking up space (I could easily store all the extras in one tackle box).

My 2012 442 came in the smith blue box along the M & P 40 C came in blue box in 2015 . My ruger Lc9 2012 carboard white box.Springfield , and Kel Tecs all in black plastic boxs. All taking up space in shed lol

The Ruger SBH pistols that I have purchased new all came in a yellow and black carton where the S&W revolver that I purchase new came in the blue and white carton. My Colt, Springfield and the wife's Walther did come in a plastic case's however.

A few months ago I bought a S&W 642 (no lock) which came in a cardboard box. More recently I bought a model 67 which came in a blue plastic box. Then an M&P9c which came in a plastic box. As the 642 is a less expensive handgun than the others, I'm thinking perhaps it depends on the price of the gun? I don't have a clue about the color differences.
