It seems that no matter how much CLP I put in the bolt and bcg it seems to "evaporate" and my bcg dries off. Is this normal? Should I use a different lube? Thanks

Funny you should ask as I was going to post the exact same question. I seem to always have to be giving it a couple shots to keep the bolt "wet".

It's strange. I put the CLP on and a little while later it's gone. Doesn't happen on my pistol. I'm thinking of trying some grease instead. Maybe something thicker than oil.

I use the Mobil 1 also....makes the Sport easy to clean and a little goes a long way. I have tried some different lubes but the Mobil 1 rocks. Plus a quart lasts forever. I use it on all my firearms now.

Normal for CLP to evaporate rom the high heat areas like this.

At my next cleaning I am going to switch to Slip 2000 EWL, but I've only put 1428 rounds through since my last cleaning.

Your pistol is burning only a fraction of the powder the rifle burns on each shot.

Not to mention, the rifle will throw a lot of ammo, so the amount of powder being burned is significant.

Just run it. You will be amazed how much shooting they can handle without constant oiling. Even when I run a course and shoot the daylights out of the rifle, a few drops after some odd 400-600 rounds keeps it running just fine.
Cleaning is what it is..... cleaning. I just get down in there and clean it up after shooting, and forget about it.:)

I used Weapon Shield on my bolt and carrier and it was dry before I had the gun put back together..... Next day I oiled it with CLP and same thing....It's a brand new gun, 2 days old, never been shot! I was begining to think the new metal was soaking it up some how? Wiped it all down, put some plain old Remington gun oil on it and its good to go.

I tried Slip2000 EWL and it seems to stick around a lot better than the Breakfree.

Update to 3 posts up .... Took the carrier out. Bolt still has oil on it.... Out side of the carrier is dry as a bone.... Think I'm going to try Moble 1...... If that doesn't work I guess I'll break down and get some mail order Frog Lube. It may be true some parts of an AR run good with out lube, But I just can't bring myself to shooting it with a moving metal part dry

Has anyone used Mil-Comm TW25B? A small amount came with a new Sig Sauer 1911. It is a light white grease that seems to work very well. The "white" goes away with light application.

Pretty much how I treat mine. When I was shooting High Power competition, I'd put a drop of CLP in each of the vent holes visible though the ejection port after each match. I'd only strip the rifle about half way through the season which would have been about 600 rounds.

Mobil 1 10-30, and Peak synthetic red grease. If I dont spill it it will last for generations. If it twists or turns, oil it. If it slides get some grease in there.

Don't forget; the ONLY place the BCG needs oil is on the glides that it rides on, and for the bolt mechanism itself- and there, it only needs oil on its' glides, the rings, and the extractor needs a drop. Not 12, just 1 drop.

Having a wet BCG is just asking for oil to get everywhere, and for the entire rifle to become a grime magnet.
