Got a used and very dirty 64-3 today. I was tearing it down for a good clean, and the bolt was difficult to come out. I puush it to the rear against the spring and plunger but it wouldn't lift out. I finally got it out and the bolt plunger took off, and it is nowhere to be found. The spring remained in the bolt.

I go to Midway and the part is called Bolt Plunger Spring and Sear Spring, but the picture only shows one spring. I know the pic is blown up, but it looks bigger than the spring that remained in the bolt.

So what part do I need? I've never had an issue getting the bolt out before. Maybe it was so dirty under there that the spring wouldn't fully depress. Should I just buy a whole new bolt, as well? It's a 64-3.

I'm not sure what the part is, but you may want to check out Numrich's website. They usually have schematics with part names and may even have the part you need. When I needed to replace the bolt on my 2" 64 that's where I got it from.

What's the # of the part in this schematic that you're referring to?

A magnet on a long stick is good thing to have. It can be a pain, but if you lift the other end of the bolt out of the frame first, you trap the plunger & spring against the inside of the frame.

It was part 23 and 24. And I took another shot at looking for it and by some miracle I found it.

It was kind of gunked up. The hole with the spring goes into the bolt was dirty too. Maybe that's why I had issues getting the bolt out. Spring didn't quite compress all the way.

The whole gun is taken apart and soaking in ATF for a few days. I ordered the parts from Midway anyway. I'll see if I can get it back together this weekend.

Good. I just read this and was going to PM you I had both parts for you. When I take mine out I push the pin as far into the back of the frame by the back strap as it will go and life the end that makes contact with the center pin first.

Thank you for the offer. I will PM you if I have issues putting the parts in. Midway says it's gonna be a few weeks.

I've taken the bolt out of many revolvers. I do the same as you. Push the bolt as far back as it will go and lift up and out on the front end. This time it kept getting hung up.

I have been cleaning a friends M15's and use shooters choice on a pipe cleaner to clean the hole the spring and plunger go into, works pretty good.

That's how I cleaned it out. But just a dry pipe cleaner. Everything is back in the ATF until the weekend. I'll check it again. Can't believe I found the plunger.
