Years ago, I read an article by Jim Cirillo in which he talked about a S&W N frame he had installed a 4" Dan Wesson barrel assembly on. To top it off, he had a sight rib installed as well. It looked like a Bomar, but I couldn't tell.

Does anyone know if a sight rib short enough for a 4" barrel is, or was made? I'm wondering if he just had a 6" rib cut and shortened.

A check with Midway just shows 6" versions, and I can't find a website for Bomar.

I'm thinking about doing this to one of my guns ( not the Dan Wesson barrel, just the rib)

Bo-Mar was a backyard business and my understanding is the the owner died. Tooling/name/good will is part of the estate.

While they were in business, they'd make ribs to any length you specified. Shortening a rib wouldn't be hard. Probably the easiest way with a non-ajustable front sight would be to cut the rib, machine a flat for the front sight and drill & tap where indicated.

Unfortunately he died. I had a 4 inch rib on my heavy barreled Model 10 and it was great. Do a search or post an add in Wanted To Buy and someone may be able to help you.

What I liked best is you didn't have to remove the front sight.

IIRC, the Bo-Mar unit was called the "Cover-Up" rib, or some such...previous posters are correct about Bo-Mar being "Tango Uniform", unfortunately...
HOWEVER, the Aristocrat Sight Co. still lists at least one of their rib/sight combo's as being available for the four-inch barrel..."Google" 'em, and take a look at their website...HTH....mikey357
