Do any of you own a Bonds Arms Derringer that shoots the 45 Colt and the 410? My grandson is interested in one and any info. concerning one would be appreciated.
I have one, well built hunk of stainless. Mine is the Century 2000 model, kind of a novelty gun but would be useful in OK to keep the snakes away, I would rather have a American Derringer they are a little smaller and weigh a little less but are hard to find on the shelves by me. I don't think you will be disappointed in the quality
What does the Bond model weigh? Seems to me that chambered for .45 Colt or .410 gauge it would have to be pretty hefty. Some derringers I've seen were virtually the size and weight as a J-frame. Not a great trade-off for only two rounds.
I had the 38/357 Texas Defender model. It was a hefty little thing, and yes more of a novelty item. It had two different points of aim from the two barrels and I could never shoot it consistently. I eventually traded it off. If I needed something for snakes now, I would load 38 shot in one of my S&Ws.
I have the Bond with a .38/.357 barrel. The nice thing about the Bond is that all barrels are interchangeable.
It's built like a brick shipyard, no doubt about it, and probably would take second money to a small snubnose when it comes to being your primary carry gun. Even though it's only two shots, it's still a handy little concealable gun.
I had one a few years that I bought to use in cowboy side matches. It was .45 Colt/.410. The rifling was very shallow and it tended to key hole with some .45 Colt bullets. The .410 patterns were not very good beyond a few feet. I never carried it because it was too big and bulky and a single action two shot pistol. The trigger was very heavy and almost impossible to pull unless the trigger finger was on the right spot on the trigger. I didn't like it very much and traded. I don't think its a very practical SD gun. If you want one to play with, it may be to your liking but I much prefer a J Frame Smith or D Frame Colt for real business.
