Hello all,
I am a retired LEO with 35 years of service and own 26 handguns ranging in caliber from 22lr to 45 Colt. Included in this bunch are 3 NAAs in 22 mag and 5 derringers. My favorite derringer is my Bond Arms Snake Slayer. I have 3 barrels for it..the 45/410, a 45 Colt and a 45 acp. This thing is solid stainless steel and built like a tank! The recoil is quite manageable due to its weight and design. It is a hoot to shoot. Many complain about the trigger pull but it is comparable to a decent 1911 when used as designed. The trigger pivots on a pin and is made to always pull back and down, Not straight back...which results in a horrendous trigger pull! Just use the trigger as it was meant to be and don't allow your thumb to rest against the hammer..even a little!
I carry this beast often..but never as my only gun!

I have one too. With #4 shot it is a devastating snake killer, and capable of taking out armadillos too. With the 44 special barrel and CCI snake shot, you don't really have to aim much. Just point in the general direction and kaboom!!

If I was able to add one more carry it would be this or a Ranger 2 in .410/.45LC.

There's another company that makes derringers....and they make an "Alaskan survival" model in,are you ready? 45-70!!

Seen them since I was a kid and never once have I thought "gee,I wanna shoot that" I may be crazy be I ain't straight up loco

I love my Snake Slayer. I have used it mostly for side matches in cowboy action shooting with .45 Colt ammo.

But I have carried it a bit with .410 ammo for snakes when I am out running around the ranch checking fences......

Bond Arms is a wonderful company staffed by wonderful folks. Hope the recent floods in Granbury TX didn't affect them unduly. As the OP said, the Bond derringer is very strong... and very heavy. I'm a derringer fan, but I find the Bond difficult to justify as a carry piece when my M&P 340s weigh about 1/3 less and carry 5 .357 rounds.

Mine is used with the several add'l bbls I have purchased as a range gun. It is shootable, hits to point of aim, unlike many derringers, and serves me as a practice piece for the American Derringer guns I sometimes carry. Reminds me: gotta get it to the range with the .357 bbl.
