Bore Sight Recommendations?

After affixing my Jpoint MDR 4 MOA red dot sight to my M&P Pro C.O.R.E. my son-in-law used his green laser bore sight to zero it. I then went to the range and found that I was shooting low and to the left, so while there, I tinkered with the sight. Unfortunately, I made things worse, not better, so I would like to go back to square one and try again. This time, I'd like to get my own bore sight, as the JPoint doesn't have an on-off switch, so I'll need to re-zero it every time I change the battery. Thing is, a lot of the reviews I've read on Amazon are all over the place.

I'm tempted to get a Sightmark 9mm Luger Boresight (SM39015), which is a chambered "round" versus a magnetized over-the-muzzle or insert-into-the-muzzle type. I don't want to spend a ton of money on it, as I don't see me having to use it but infrequently.

Any suggestions or recommendation?

Boresight

I have the Leupold that has the magnet that sticks on the end of the barrel.Sounded hokey to me but I gave it a try and It's first shot on paper on my shotguns,rifles and handguns.The thing works great! It's so small and compact too.

I have used the Leupold Magnetic Borsight (LMB) for years and it works great. I find it useful for.

1. Original boresighting of the weapon B4 shooting. After final zero I notate point on the grid of LMB on a sheet of paper and/or in a data book.

2. Occassional check of my zero without firing a shot (I keep a drawing of the above final point with the rifle and in my data book). I keep the LMB with me on trips so I can always check w/o firing a shot.

I have the old style----Leupold has a new style that I am sure will work fine. I am not fond of any of those chambered round style items.

Lately when boresighting a firearm---I find MUCH better results when staring out by setting the rifle in rest and looking through the bore at an item 40 to 80 yards away and adjust my scope to that same object. That is the way people did it for years on bolt actions and you can do so on AR's. Works like a champ.

I then still use my final zero diagram for future check and when traveling.

You don't need to re-zero a dot when changing batteries, the zero is mechanical not electronic. I've had my Deltapoint on and off a dozen times and have not had to re-zero. I have one of those "in the chamber" lasers and it was cheap and works well enough to get the round on paper (out to 25 yard which is my zero for USPSA pistol)

Thanks for the responses, folks! An update: I stopped by Wallyworld today and happened to spy a Firefield Universal Bore Sight -- one of the magnetic types mentioned above. However, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to get the batteries in the thing! There's a plastic insert where the batteries (three of the AG1 button type) are supposed to go, but it won't slide, pop out, or otherwise let me get one, much less all three in place. It may be defective, and I'll return it.

In the meantime, I'll check out the Leupold.

EDIT: Apparently the only Leupold available is on eBay. I did, however, discover how to get the batteries into the Firefield UBS and adjusted the JPoint. I'm going to live fire it on Saturday and see if I've improved things. Also, I learned tonight that my new glasses are ready. If the planets are all lined up properly, I should be a happy shooter by the end of the day!
