For the first time in nearly a year the local Walmart had 550 round bricks of 22lr. Priced at $15.47 they were a bargain. They had at least a dozen, I bought two. They also had Winchester 9mm, 115 grain for $11.47 a box. They had 20 boxes, I bought four. The guy working the sporting goods section, said he did not normally work there and didn't know squat about ammo. He did ask If the 22's were for a rifle or a pistol. I had no idea what the right answer was so went with the old standby, the truth. My pistol, I told him and he mumbled something about that being OK. What is the problem with buying 22's for a rifle???

I started to pick up a couple more boxes of 9mm and he said that he could only sell me 6 boxes of ammo, regardless of the caliber. I left happy but a tad confused. Nice to see Wally world stocking the shelves again though there was no .380, 38, 357's or 45's to be seen. As usual shotgun rounds were everywhere, not even locked up like everything else. I have no clue how they run their ammo department but then again, neither do they. (o;

Which Walmart ? I queried the Supercenter in Marana, on Cortaro Farms Rd. yesterday morning, about 8:30, and they had no .22 rimfire....

I was googling "Federal auto match .22" and saw another thread on this same subject on a tupperware forum. ;)

It seems that some stores either have a lot of ammunition, get a lot of ammunition, or stay sold out all the time. It is regional it seems like. Also, the prices are regional. One store may still sell those Federal 550rd. bulk packs at $11.97 or $12.97, and a store 100 miles away in the same state will have it for $15.97! They have no consistency on "blind" items from store to store- only advertised products.

I did pick up 5 boxes of Federal 150gr. .30-30 for $10.97 each the other day. :D

Here you have to be 21 to buy 22s for a pistol , and 18 to buy for
a rifle I think.

A Wal-Mart I stopped in at in Indiana had Remington .22 hollowpoints in 550 round boxes for $16.47 each. They had over 50 boxes.

My local Wal-Mart has had Federal 9mm at $9.97 a box every time I walk in. Limit is 6 boxes and I'm at the point where I don't need anymore. They also had .40 and .45 Federal ammo at very reasonable prices.

Gun shops still don't have ammo, but Wal-Mart is doing okay and that's fine with me because their prices aren't through the roof. The gunshops seem to be ripping us all off.

A fellow shooting paid $29.99 for a 50 box of .380 fmc. I bought a 100 round Remington value pack at Wal-Mart for $15.97 during the same week.

This was at the (relatively), new one on Tangerene and Oracle. The parking lot was nearly empty and there were more employees than shoppers inside. They have to be hurting.

All gone as of 9:00 PM....

Rule #1: Take your wife along. Take your adult kids along too. Take a buddy at least (who is of age.) The limit isn't per family, flock, gaggle, whatever. Its per person. You and your wife can buy 12. Then go back a few hours later and repeat if you need more.

WalMart is big enough they can negotiate pretty good deals on anything. Your local gun shop can't buy direct, they get theirs from a wholesale distributor. Even the distributor may not be big enough to score a great deal.

Look at it this way, the distributor might be in a position to buy a tractor trailer load every month or so. WallyWorld home office can order up train loads at a time. On products that aren't always in short supply, the manufacturer is happy to keep his entire facility sold out. As much as he can make, WalMart will take.

I personally detest the stores, the parking lots, and all because of the patrons. I accept the fact they aren't all lowlifes, but too many of them are. Sometime google "the people of walmart." The folks waddling along are to be avoided. My youngest son tipped me off to the best way to shop. In the winter, enter thru the garden store entrance. Go out the same way. Fewer people parked there, fewer shopping carts. A direct way into the store and to the sporting goods section (also the automotives for those who change their own oil.) The hot ticket is to also pay at the ammo counter if you can. Some places require it. It avoids standing in line with strange people.

My local Walmart actually had a 100 round white box of .380 last night. Haven't seen that in a while. I passed on it though. Maybe I shouldn't have. I don't know, I have some and there will be more.

Wal-Marts must vary, I see plenty of 9mm, .40,and .22 bulk. and .45acp. I have not bought any in a couple of months.I figured I would let someone else have it. Now .38sp, and .357 mag ,that is rare.

I avoid Maomart like the plague! Haven't been in one in years. I'd rather pay double than support them. Thanks to the stock market these last few months, I can afford to stay away from Maomart!

I stopped by the local Walmart yesterday to see if they had any 22's, they've been out lately and none of the local gunshops have had any for months. Walmart had about 25 or 30 boxes of 50, Remington thunderbolt, for $1.97 a box, limit six boxes. They had no bricks and no other handgun ammo, although there seemed to be a good bit of rifle and shotgun ammo. Tough times.

Dick your son is one smart cookie an it works , i found that out a few years ago also pay at the counter an not waite in line in front of the store

our local wally world makes you pay at the ammo counter, which is great as far as i am concerned. don't have to stand in line at the front.

I have seen a slight increase in stock at my local Wally
World. Been decreasing it as best I can.

I plan on going by the local Wally World tomorrow to see if they have any bulk Federal 550 packs on the shelf. They have had none since last December/January. I had been stocking up on a regular basis leading up to the shortage a couple of boxes at a time. You can never have too much .22 ammo on hand! It is costly in another way. Since it got so expensive to shoot centerfire, I found myself shooting more and more rimfire. This lead to buying more rimfire guns!!! It's a vicious circle!:)

FWIW, stay away from Remington .22 "Thunderbolt" ammo. It will lead up your barrel faster than you can say "bad grouping"!

For the first time in a while I walked into WW and the young lady says I got you some ammo today. Felt good to say Thats OK I'm good for now. Pretty good selection 22 mini mags some bulk 9mm 40s&w 44 mag no 38 or 357 or 380. Bunch of other stuff I didn't look to close.

I was at the local Wally World today. Rifle ammo seems to be in fairly good supply. Appears that they must have just gotten a shipment of Federal 9mm and .40 S&W. They have a good supply of both. There was exactly one 100 round white box of Winchester .38 Special. A few bulk packs of .22s. No .45acp or other pistol calibers at all.
It appears that the supply is coming back, but slowly and in spurts.
