Got this Zeiss Jena "Zielacht" 8X scope at an estate auction. Must have came from a WW2 vet, because there were some Nazi banners and bayonets at from the same estate.
All fittings and mounts are there and glass is fairly clean..just like Ed Harris used in Enemy at the Gates...From what I understand, these were never officially issued, but were private purchased by Waffen SS combat troops.
On the front of the tube is engraved "F.W Vandrey & Co Hamburg", which from my research was a fine arms dealer that sold luftwaffe drillings, fine shotguns and high end optics.
I got two more German scopes in the same lot...Another sniper scope that reads "DINOX 4X81" on one side of the turret and "W.BISCHOFF BRAUNSCHWIEG" on the other side.
Both are really decent condition for 90 year old scopes that went through a war and probably came home on a troop ship.
There is currently an 8 power on Ebay for $3800 and another for $2000...Apparently the 8 power "zielacht" is the rarest of all...Good grief.
