I just picked up a SW1911TA and love the trigger but experienced frequent FTF's; like almost every round. Tried both mags that came with it and had the same issue. I did observer some metal wear on the top of the chamber area and it did get less frequent as I shot it but still happened quite a bit; ran through about 150 rounds today. Interestingly, the one 8-round mag I ran of personal defense rounds all fired without a hitch.

Curios if this is normal as part of the break in period and likely to resolve itself or not? Right now, I'm planning to run 200 rounds through it on the next session and if it doesn't resolve, send it to S&W. I've always had great experiences with their customer support.

thanks!

My SW1911SC 5" fed & fired every JHP & ball load I tried in it, starting with the very first magazine load.

Of course, I only used major American brand factory new JHP's & ball ammo in it, and it was cleaned and lubed before the first range session.

Wear patterns on the barrel hood are normal.

If your "personal defense rounds" ran normally, what were the "break in" loads you were using which resulted in the feeding stoppages?

I had a few FTF with my TA with the mags that came with it my first outing. I started using my CM mags and have not had any problems. I would try some different mags. Like Fastbolt said wear patterns on barrel hood are normal.

The first 100 were professional reloads, the 2nd 50 were WWB. Thanks for the feedback, I'll try to get another different brand mag to try.

It took just over 500 rounds to get mine working. I was shooting 230 gr. military hard ball ammo. All my problems were failures to eject, stove pipes, so the mags were not involved. Once it was broken it, haven't had a problem since.

I think what was happening was that the slide did not come fully back into battery so it wouldn't fire. A round was chambered, but it wouldn't fire. I wonder if it did better with the HST ammo because of a bit more power?

Since you mention break in did you field strip & clean before shooting? I like to run a little wet during break in.

No, I didn't do that, but will next time, thanks! This is my first 1911.
