Briefcase, messenger bag or "Man" Purse

A small fanny pack can be great, if it is appropriate to the activity. One of the pseudo-cell phone carriers (especially considering that cell phones have been evolving to be larger in the past two years, after evolving to be smaller for the preceding 10 years) on the belt wouldn't be bad, for the right sized pistol. See SneakyPete for one example; there are others; I am not endorsing this one but simply found their web page.

And don't forget the benefits of simple pocket carry (always with a "holster," even if it is a flat envelope-like deal) for a small auto or a snubbie revolver. That's my solution to the carry problem for shorts or when a fanny pack or anything else won't work - a S&W J frame. Not to restart something like the Chevy-Ford, .45 vs. 9mm, what caliber-is-needed-to-stop Grizzlies, how-many-rounds-are-enough discussions -- but five rounds will have to do in a up-close-and-personal-until-its-done, or break-contact-and-run (preferred) scenario.

+1 on the Maxpedition Fatboy Versipack. Lots of color options too, so you aren't walking around screaming I have a gun in this black/od/fde bag.

^^^ Yes... What's going on that you couldn't carry IWB, OWB or Pocket Carry on your body?
Off-Body carry is not the good way to carry.
If/when you do, you'd want a bag system that has wire cable imbedded in the strap, so someone couldn't do a simple slash of the strap and grab the entire bag.

Please, no black socks with sandals + fanny pack.

And no God awful PLAID Bermuda shorts....I hope they have stopped making them.

My retired uncle showed up the other day, still had them plaid Bermuda shorts, but was now wearing day-glow orange Crocks, in place of sandals, and a bright Hawaiian Shirt !
I still have nightmares . When you get old do loose all sense of fashion...or just don't give a hoot about what other's think ?

As a matter of fact I never did care what others thought and really care less now. If you don't like my camo Crocks and white sweat socks or the bright orange or yellow running socks you probably won't like my camo cargo shorts and camo suspenders. I doth you will even notice I am carrying with all my other dress code going on. Don

Magload, that's a great outfit!

They have not!!! Ask Magload!

Both, I expect - could be a failure of vision thing, maybe......or does your uncle live in Miami? :)

I usually need to have my work laptop with me wherever I go and it is one of those really fat heavy laptops so I got the 5.11 Tactical Messenger Bag XL size. They have Medium and Large too for smaller bags. It's really nice I've had it for about a year and I like it a lot.

I know one of the patches is upside down. I have fixed it since taking the picture lol

Since we have drifted from the discussion of the question in the original post of this thread into a fashion critique it reminded me of an episode of the original Star Trek. The story line was based on the bloody struggle between two factions, both having their bodies black on one side an white on the other. The hatred and bigotry was based on whether the right half was white or black or vice versa.
It is no ones business what color socks I choose to wear although I recognize and support your right to voice your opinion just as I am doing now, but neither your post nor this one are offering any useful information to the person asking advice.....just saying.
I did offer my suggestion in answer to instymp's request.
