I'm a civilian, but I work for the US Air Force. I was going to deploy to Afghanistan. Here is my short tale:
10 Jun- Travel to Wyoming for training
11 Jun- At the end of day ONE, two guys fall on me and break my femur. Not going anymore.
12 Jun- The surgeon inserts a rod in my femur at the hospital in Douglas, WY.
20 Jun- I travel home to CA.
21 Jun- I start to realize the pain involved with having the government as an insurer.
3 July- I finally get a local orthopedic Dr to see me for a follow up. It's at this appointment that I discover the original surgery didn't hold and the bone pieces have separated.:eek: More surgery will be needed and it should be soon. This doc refers me to another surgeon.
17 Jul- Still no approval from Department of Labor(DOL) for the new surgery. Frustrated and in pain.
31 Jul- Still no approval from DOL. I'm pissed and so is the local ortho guy. I learn the surgeon may not take me because it's been so long.
1 Aug- I find out that approval was given on the 24th, but they didn't update it in the computer thus leaving me in waiting status.
2 Aug- Because I actually got the approval, the surgeon will take me. Phew!
6 Aug- I schedule an appointment with the surgeon for consultation on the 8th.

As of the 31st my leg looks like this:

Needless to say I've been stuck in the house for two months now. I've seen every TV show and found the end of the internet. Obviously, I've spent too much time on this forum.

So, I thank y'all for providing entertainment and apologize if I've been obnoxious. I don't want to be and this situation is driving me crazy. This is a great forum and I've met some great guys here. Yes, I'm fishing for sympathy.:p

Some advice:
Don't break your femur. It really hurts!
If you're going to injure yourself on the job, I hope you don't have the US Government as an employer. It's good insurance, but really hard to work with and crazy slow.

I weep for our country when the "Affordable Health Care" is forced on us.

That sucks! Hope you get your injury taken care of. I lived in antelope valley myself from 1969 to 2005. Its about as hot as Afghanistan, so you know what your missing. I bet we know some of the same people.

Gov. Insurance is better than no insurance, the damage is done. All you can do now is grin and bear it.
Good luck to you, your friends here will be keeping you in mind.
Keep us posted on your progress.

Douglas, Wyoming has a surgeon?

Here's hoping you get healed up and everything works out for you.

Yeah, I was surprised as well. They got rodeos and ranches up there. That's where most of the broken bones come from. He's a pretty good one and I'd probably be all healed up now if I didn't have to travel from there to here.

and that x-ray still looks like your bones aren't lined up correctly.
Yes, the bones are not lined up right. That's why I need the second surgery. Here's what it looked like right after the first surgery:

As you can see, it was lined up right. Not perfect, but at least in a position where it could heal properly. It could have been during the flight, it could have been while I was sleeping, I don't know, but it moved. Now it's like the first pic.

The problem at this point is that it's been too long. If the ends of the bone pieces have started to heal, when they get put back in place they may not knit together. If that has happened, the bone will have to be re-constructed. I have no idea what that entails.

Thursday will be an eye opening consultation to be sure.

Hope you make a full and painless recovery.
I had the same thing happen to me dealing with DOL while working for the Feds. They are different then for regular DOL. Applied somewhere in March for work related illness. Waited and waited called and called not approved for 13 months. Finally get ahold of some one that had a little knowledge and found I had been approved 7 months before. Great, now I have a permanent illness caused by them which could have been corrected with proper and timely acceptance and notification of my claim being accepted. All the while DOD kept threating me to be terminated because I couldn't do my job. All they had to do was move me back to the division I was transferred from without my approval. No illness no knee injuries, and no wrist injuries, all in one year.
Great way to be retired with these problems so I can't do what I wanted to do after retirement.

Glad you got taken care of and prayers for a full and complete recovery, Good Luck.

OBTW wait till you try to get a lawyer to get a settlement for your injuries, that's another fiasco, hopefully you don't have to deal with a lawyer that deals with the federal government, few and far between as they are specialized. Like I said I was employed by the DOD so fed laws all the way.

Another government subsidized surgery like the first and you won't have a leg to stand on.

On a lighter note, I once had a set of ill-fitting factory target K-frame grips that looked like that femur.

Get well soon, Rastoff.

Hope everything gets better. Nothing worse than waiting for the Gov't to call back.

Anything happen to the 2 guys that used you for a Bouncy House Trampoline?

Good Luck on the second surgery and hope it heals up
right. No wonder we've been butting heads for a week
now !!!! I understand now. :D:D:D
No hard feelings and truly wishing you the Best.
