The safety on my Buckmark has always so stiff I cannot set or release it with just my thumb. I need to use my support hand for better leverage. Now this is mainly just a target gun, not a carry or hunting gun, so at the range its load a magazine, rack the slide and rock and roll, a safety is not really needed.

I did a quick Google search and it seems to be somewhat common.

My question is to any fellow Buckmark owners how is your safety?
Can you operate it with your shooting hand thumb only?

Thanks.....

Kevin,

I generally use my non-shooting hand to apply and disengage the safety on my Buckmark. I have arthritis in the thumb of my shooting hand and can not apply the safety with it, however I can use that thumb to disengage the safety. My safety is not stiff as you are describing. Not more than a pound or two in operation.

I suspect Browning figures that a stiff thumb safety, one that will not inadvertently be applied, is a good thing for the majority of the Buckmark pistol's users. Mine can the applied/released with the master thumb with deliberate action, which suits me.

I have two Buckmarks and yes the safety is stiff. But I can work it with my shooting hand thumb. But these are range guns and I rarely apply the safety anyway.

Update. I stripped t down to just the frame and trigger group and worked some break cleaner through the innards. That and a light lube now has it where, although still stiffer than most, I can work it with just my dominant shooting hand.
I had read that safety that are left in one position for an extended period of time can get gummed up. I believe this was the case.

Kevin,

Have you done the Hegis Flip [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLLqFY-Dvec[/ame] or removed the mag disconnect [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFamBx5v5JM[/ame] ?

Have done both to mine and it makes a world of difference!

My 25 year old Buckmark has a great safety that isn't too stiff and MUCH more ergonomic and attractive than my Ruger 22/45 Tactical.
