Rolled up on this 1983 Hi-Power and it came home with me.
Decent condition. Has had the thump safety switched
out kinda of a plus.
However, the adjustable sight have me off.
I am familiar with the "beeercan" adj. sights can't
figure the maker of these.
Any clues ?

Aftermarket? The adj. sight on my HP is the standard factory orig. design, and other than the Tangent style, I don't recall seeing another version from the factory on guns of this era. Could be wrong though, not a HP expert.

Browning used a few different adjustables. The one in the OP's photos is one. I had hi powers with the "beer can" type, LPA, and the one shown in the OP's photos. I don't know who made that one, just remember the sharp corners. At some point, Browning also used the Millett adjustable rear. After the beer can type, I suspect FN went with whatever rear adjustable met their needs at the most competitive price..

I think those were made by A.T.I. for Browning, it's called the "Type B" rear sight, and only used for a couple of years (1982-83) before being replaced by Millett rear sights. Below is what the Millet looks like, it is somewhat similar, the blade on the front sight is dovetailed into the slide. This BHP was made in 1995 and is a Type III, yours is a Type II.

Years back I had the Wilson gunshop (just Wilson then, Wilson Combat came later) install a 1960's era Kensight adjustable rear on a BHP. Absolutely exquisite and useful when low mounted. Those original Kensights were commonly used in GI hardball guns. A little lower profile than a BoMar but just as robust.

I have always thought that the adjustable sights on BHP's were sort of ugly and looked out of place like they were stuck on as an afterthought. I think they should have done something more like a low mounted Bomar . I have a custom with a S&W adjustable milled into the slide from the 70's. that one looks great.

Thinking about sending this one to Novacks...
Add some low profile type sights.
Shoots great and the magazine safety has been removed
decent trigger.

Thanks for all the info.......

The Millet is a good sight bit, as another commented, all the adjustable sights on BHPs look kind of "stuck on." Mine has the Millet, and I plan to replace it with something with a lower profile, probably fixed. I'd like to find a fixed rear that would work with the factory front sight.

FN did finally get the memo, and factory installed a low mounted adjustable. For whatever reason, the low mounted adjustables seemed to be available in Europe for few years before I saw any available in the US.

Those are good sights, be sure to Loctite the screws as they do not have any detents. My HP tended to shoot loose until I used Loctite.

I had the Novak White Tritium Mega Dot Night Set installed on my FN. I have been very happy with it.
Nice Browning
