Picked up a FEG Hi Power clone with one unmarked 13-round magazine and a MecGar 10-rounder. The followers are entirely different with the Mecgar very much set up to feed rounds from the right side.

Googling suggests that Mecgars are the way to go, and my feeding experiments with JHP ammo seem to back this up. I'm not certain if the hump has been taken out of the feed ramp, but I'm pretty certain it has been polished at the very least.

What are the thoughts from the Hi Power owners here on magazines.

TIA

I bought two ProMag magazines for my Hi Power. They are absolutely worthless trash that won't cycle properly. I've cleaned them, taken the springs in and out, nothing helps, and they simply do not feed correctly, and the nose of the bullet is always pointing down leading to feeding problems. When you load them, you can try to pack them, but you can still hear the rounds bouncing up and down in the magazine. I honestly felt like I was completely ripped off by a product that won't work at all. I won't buy another ProMag product ever again.

My Hi Power Browning magazines are marked "made in Italy" and are said to be made by Mec-gar under contract to Browning. While I don't know this for sure, the Mec-gar magazines are equally reliable and well made at half the price of the Browning magazines.

The Browning "Mousetrap" magazines and the Mec-Gar magazines are both made by Mec-Gar. Besides the mousetrap spring, the other difference between the two is the follower. The Browning follower now feeds the rounds at a VERY slightly higher angle to help hollow-points feed, especially on older guns. The shiny blue Mec-Gars have the same follower shape that my 1976 model's magazine has. Mec-Gar has made original mags for FN and Beretta's handguns for years.

Steven Camp was the true BHP guru.He died much to young about 5 yrs back. But if you search you can still find his websight. It has a lot of very good info on all aspects of the BHP.He did recommend the mecgar mags. By the way I owned a FEG at one time and it worked as well as any of my other hi powers.

To the OP: The follower in your Mecgar may have to do with the fact that it is a 10 round mag. I agree that the Mecgar (in standard 13 round capacity) is the way to go for BHP or a clone such as yours.

Thanks guys. Snagged some Mecgar 17-round mags from CDNN. They seem to feed fine handcycling, so a range trip is in order. Sadly, I suspect that may reveal an extractor issue, but let's wait and see.
