Hey guys! Last month I got a Browning Hi-Power in excellent shape for a price I couldn't refuse! It is a Mk III model and I also felt the need to buy a military holster and belt for it:

What a beauty! I managed to find this gun in almost factory new condition for half the cost of a brand new one. A steal for sure, I'm so happy! And it runs perfectly, I've shot it quite a lot! For those that don't know, the Browning Hi-Power still sees lots of military use worldwide. The holster and belt are British but they've since switched to Glock 17s. Still, Canada as well as many countries continue to use Hi-Powers to this day. They're great! :)

Take care all!

MKIII's are sweet for sure. I have yet to find anything in FMJ or JHP of the 124gr variety it won't cycle. Mine is just like yours except I ground off the ambi safety, did away with the magazine safety, and added some slimmer Navidrex grips. I'll probably add the requisite Novak sights at some point and call it good.

Enjoy!

Wonderful gun; somebody will be along to tell you how much better the ones that were assembled in Belgium are. That is a way to for you to know that they know little about these fine guns. Other will tell you how the Israeli/Bulgarian/Argentinian made ones are just as good. Ditto :D

Have you been to the High Power section of the 1911forum.com? Lots of info. I did have the magazine safety removed on both of mine, along with trigger jobs (probably not needed after the mag safety removed), and Novak sights put on one of them to get rid of the adjustable sights, which as you can tell by the Practical Model are a little ungainly, but are effective.

If you like to read, I can recommend Stephen Camp's book that is geared much more toward the shooter than the collecter. It's available here:

Hi Powers and Handguns

I've been toting around a MkII for the last couple of weekends. It's next to me as I type. I have a soft spot for Hi-Powers.

Congrats on your find.

That is a fine looking Browning. I had a Mark III long ago and in many ways wish I still had it, it was a very nice pistol. About 20 years ago I traded it at a gun show for a S&W model 25-5 which is my favorite centerfire handgun. I love the Smith as a great revolver and it pairs nicely with my Marlin .45-70 lever action.

Once the 'ol U.S. dot gov decides to turn on my paycheck again, I'll buy Stephen Camp's book for sure.

Yep. Guys if you're eligible to reenlist, do yourself a favor and do it NOW before AFPC tells finance you aren't in the military anymore!! :D

Well I will be the guy to tell you nothing compares to a Belgi made version.......though mine is not an early Belgium made from the 50s 0r 60s nor is it pristine. Mine has some honest wear but still in very good shape for being 40 years old.

I hear the early Belgies are better than the later ones, like yours.

A Belgian Hi-Power in 7.65 was the very first semi-auto handgun I ever fired.

The HP certainly deserves its place in the pantheon of Great Guns.

Nice set, OP.

Jay you got a nice deal on a great pistol, congratulations.

I have a soft spot for HP's as well. This is one of two consecutive numbered with tangent sights I have. The one that has the disconnect removed and trigger job has has a couple mags fired through, the other is stock and unfired.

This is an FN High Power rather than have Browning's name on it. I stumbled on at a Cabela's for a price like you paid. It, as well as the next one pictured, has the disconnect removed and trigger job as well.

This one is a 75th anniversary 1935-2010, which must not have sold as well as Browning hoped because CDNN ended up with some which is where I bought it. I really like the sights on this one.
