Bud's has some really ugly looking Model 10's listed for <$300. Anybody know where they are coming from?

I looked at them in the Tn retail store a few days ago. None of the salesmen knew where they came from. They all had a good bit of "patina" and were priced at 329 if I remember correctly. I spent a few dollars more and picked up an MP40C trade in. They were in suprisingly nice condition.

When I bought my 3" model 10 from Bud's a couple of years ago, they were from Australia - the Victoria P.D. Hard to say if the ones they're selling now are. The Australian guns were cool because S&W had bought them back from VPD and imported them, which meant no import company proof markings...only original S&W roll marks. Also, Australia is cool, so that makes them more interesting. And they had pinned barrels. They had a little black round sticker on them that identified them.

As time goes on, those Bud's surplus 10's look rougher and rougher. And the price creeps up. But they're still neat and a good value.

These aren't the Aussie guns. Those are still listed at $329 and have an item number starting with VPD. The guns I'm talking about are $289 and have an item number that starts with UGSW. Wonder what the UG stands for?

I ran across a group of really ugly Model 10s at the local gun show last weekend. All had close SNs in the 1Dxxxxx range, and beat-up PC grips, all priced at $250 each. Seller said he knew nothing about where they came from. Maybe somewhere in darkest Somalia? Maybe Bud's?

I like a pretty gun as well as anyone but an ugly one if it's well timed, tight, & not pitted would be a great packing six-gun. The mod. 10 is one of the better ones for that, light, accurate, reasonably powerful, & fixed sights don't change unless they are really abused.
Someone wants a great six-gun to use & not worry about finish if they could be had for $250-300, I'd call it a deal?

A bunch of Model 10's around here have come from Jordan via Williams Shooters Supply.

I got a buds 10 last month. Solid gun, but kind of beat up. I'd say 70% which is what Buds rated them at. Gun made in 1981. Pinned barrel.

It's being refinished as I type this. Yeah, I'm in a little over 600 in this gun, but it's a pinned 34 year old smith, and when I get it back its gonna look new. Model 10's are never gonna be collectable.

I got a set of Altamont finger groove rosewood stocks waiting to go on it. I'll post pics when I get it back.

I bought one of those Aussie 3" 10's a few years back. Gun was nice. Sold it soon after. Wish I still had it. But square butt 3"'guns just don't look right to me.
