Not to start another discussion about the effectiveness, or lack there of, of the .380 round for personal defense. I did see some info in another post here that referred to Buffalo Bore Ammo. I checked out their site & the reviews that are available. That flat nose led bullet is smokin for a 380 and the new Barnes TAC-XP looks very potent.

I carry a Kimber Ultra Carry II 45 as primary. I'm picking up a new P238 next week so I'm very interested in this ammo for those times when i'm not comfortable with the 45. I will not shoot a lot of this hot ammo in the gun, just enough to check reliabilty and point of aim. I'm considering a staggered clip of the FN lead & HPs.

Your wisdom is appreciated. - jerry

I wouldn't worry too much about shooting "hot" ammo in that P238. That pistol looks like a 1911 shrunk down to very small... It's a solid little pistol that will probably digest anything you want to feed it.

Personally I would shoot Hornady Critical defense .380 ammo. Everyone I know who has a .380 has changed over to that ammo. It seems to be the best currently available in that caliber.

In a post from the past, I posted results I had gotten from shooting Buffalo Bore DXP'S from a 380. I had aquired a few bullets taken from antelope and deer. There are photos and stories.

BB 380

Well I posted a review on the Buffalo Bore site after chrono testing their Barnes load in my Sig 230. The velocity they quote is right on the money and the round was very accurate. Recoil was only slightly more than most factory loads. I went out and bought more of it.

There is a Youtuber called tnoutdoors9 that I subscribe to. He does excellent ballistics tests in gelatin with denim, not water or jugs or phone books. He has posted several on 380 loads, and you might find the results useful in your decision of what ammo to carry in your Sig. He hasn't done Buffalo Bore 380 yet.

I saw that post. Good info. I bet you could drop one of them antelope with it if you'd belly craw up close enough for a shot.

BROWN, got to remembering something that might be of interest. The mule deer I shot with the DPX's that gave complete broadside penatration, I also shot him twice with Buffalo Bore 95 grain fmj fn. I wanted to determine the penatration of such a load on a spinal column. I shot that same deer twice in the neck at @3'. Both bullets hit the spine and did not exit the spinal column. When skinning the neck I saw no evidence of damage on the off side of the spine. The spine is a very tough thing to break, it has stopped many high power rifles. The reason I had forgot about this is, after skinning the neck, I cut the head and neck off, removed the horns and left the hornless head and neck on a tall tree stump in the forest near my house. I figured I would let the birds pick it clean and I could easier determine bullet damage. The fly in the ointment here is coyotes. The next day the head was gone and never seen again. I thought I had it high enough to keep the old prairie wolves from getting to it. This kind of thing happens about everytime I go to thinking.
