Ok, this forum was definitely the most interesting and informative when it came to my first MSR (MP15T), especially when it came to the hydraulic buffer thread I started that went WAAAAAY beyond what I expected...(and no, I still haven't gotten the ACOG, went Aimpont w/magnifier instead...), so now I'm thinking of feeding my new addiction with a new toy. Looking to buy/build a .300 short-barrel rifle with a can. I know, a huge can of worms with ATF ****, but I can't get the idea out of my head. My question is, has anyone here gone through the grueling process of submitting forms and getting tax stamps for these, and what recommendations would you guys make when it comes to buying a complete rifle vs. building one. Any suggestions/ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, and I'm in Missouri, so anyone with state-specific experience would be GREATLY appreciated. Just so you know what I've been considering so far: complete system I'm leaning towards a Spikes .300 ST Compressor set-up...if i build one im lookin at AAC/S&W components with an AAC or Spikes suppressor...thinking around 8" barrel...

I also read m4carbine.net forums. tons of guys on their discuss your issue. Right now the wait for all the forms you need to build an SBR is a 9-12 month wait. that's just coming from what guys have said/complained about. but check it out.

Ya, i've heard 6-12 months is pretty normal, and i'm ok with that...i'm more needing info on the ORDER to do things and assistance making sure I fill out the right forms and do so correctly so it minimizes the time. Also, want feedback on ideas for build or other rifles that might be worth takin a look at. Maybe my barrel length should be shorter or longer, maybe other suppressors should be considered, other brands, or maybe just suggestions of cool ideas i could incorporate...if i buy, wanna buy the best...if i build, i'm not skimping on anything, goin cadillac on this b#$@h! Lol

def check out m4carbine.net then. I believe someone posted a link/PDF of all the steps and forms you need. as far as advice I would build a 300black SBR suppressed if had the $$$. Money isn't an object as far as abuild, but 300black ammo is ridiculous right now.

Lol yup...and apparently the original rifle I was considering is just a prototype (AACs affectionately labeled "Honey Badger")...the money isnt really what i'm worried about...i just take it out of the "Privacy Fence/Home Upgrade Fund"...lol...she got a damn tanning bed, its my turn for a toy!

Got the .300 here, researching what can I want to stick on the end of it. I'm leaning towards a Gemtech. It's the forms I need to figure out too. Or, do I go the trust route. It's a lot to think over.

Ya...i was hoping someone would have posted "hey i just did all that"...lol...i was thinking there would be a lot more suggestions about certain components too...

You should look at the Thunderbeast 30P-1 https://thunderbeastarms.com/products/30p-1

It's rated up to .300 Win. Mag. They are getting great reviews, and the price is very attractive. I bought one last June from Silencer Shop 7.62mm Rifle | Silencer Shop and now I'm going through the wait for ATF approval.

Gemtech is a great company also. I have one of their cans on my Uzi.

Another great company is Liberty Suppressors. I have one of their .22 LR cans - the Liberty Essence. It's a super can for a .22 rifle or pistol. Just 4 ounces of titanium!

Using standard velocity ammo in my S&W Model 41 all you hear is the slide cycling. Very quiet.

Hope this helps.
