Found some leftover wood in the shed yesterday and decided to build a target stand. The whole thing measures 6' x 2', the board measures 2' x 3'. We'll see how it holds up this weekend :D

I have to commend you on it's simplicity. However, where I shoot you wouldn't be able to pound it into the ground because it's all hard clay.

My stands are somewhat similar except that I use a couple of bases bought from G-Mac.My stands are also 6'x2' using 1/4" plywood.I figure even with a lot of holes in it you will still be able to find an area to staple any size target on it.I used plywood that is 24"x48" to give me even more area to tear up before having to replace it.I used nuts and bolts to secure the plywood and to hopefully make it easier to change out.

I have also been able to "magically" procure some real estate signs that didn't seem to be in use where I found them. The top section is 24"x36" so it should be real easy to adapt for shooting.

Here's some pics...

I thought about getting a metal base but I'm worried with the 4x2s and the wind that we have going on here. My plan was to more permanently install the target stand. We'll see how it holds up. If not then I just make another one :D

I would be careful using any old real estate metal yard sign frames as target stands. You could possibly get a ricochet off the metal and have a problem. I think wood is a much better and cheaper alternative and will absorb an impact as opposed to deflecting it. Scrap wood is available all over from house construction job sites to companies getting rid of old pallets.

My club does not allow the use of stands driven into the ground so the metal bases are the only alternative. I also recommend cardboard as a backer as it is very cheap and can be replaced very quickly and easily. Local appliance stores usually have an abundance of refrigerator, washer or dryer boxes that can be cut to fit any size frame.

This looks like fun...:)

P.S. Disregard neighbor's house being used as a back stop. Target was set up for picture only! I "stole" this pic from a forum member that bought a stand from me. :D

A slot in a chunk of wood will work. If you don't have a chain saw handy, do a double wide cut with a skill saw.

As suggested by LousianaJoe, I use outdated campaign signs but a piece of common cardboard box will work.
