BTW- welcome to the addiction

Thank you for the links!!!

I'm looking for specific recommendations for cheap ammo that people have used that works good, maybe even some to avoid.

Just personally, I'd avoid Magtech. Some avoid Winchester White box, but it has always worked well for me.

For range ammo, I look for Brand names: Federal, Remington, Winchester, CCI....anything brass and the right weight for you. NO RELOADS for me, I don't care who makes them.

i buy 1000 rd boxes of federal from luckygunner..usually around $209 plus shipping.

I dont have enough experience to be comfortable with reloads or off brand ammo so stick with blazer brass, umc, and even herters for my full size and compact MP 9's. All brass case 115fmj and i usually pay $10-12 max per 50 at Gander, Cabelas, and Dicks.
2500 rounds with zero issues so im good with that price and quality for my range and practice needs.

The cheapest stuff I've found in a local store is the Federal Aluminum cased 115 grain at Walmart for $9.99 per box, or 20 cents per round.

If you want brass cased, you can generally find 21-24 cents per round on Blazer Brass, Tula Brassmax, or Perfecta.

I always buy from Freedom Munitions when they have free shipping, and it generally comes out at 20-21 cents per round. I've used both their new and reloads, and I haven't noticed a difference in performance so I just get the reloads now since they are cheaper.

Ammoman gives free shipping on orders over 100$.

IME, type is more important than brand. Get any name brand

brass cartridges which are boxer primed.

Not much the M&Ps don't eat, me personally I avoid steel cased ammo. Once again that's just me.

I've had no issues at all with Blazer Brass or Speer Lawman in 9mm, and 40S&W. Both are very high quality. I buy it by the case from SG Ammo.

I've shot thousands of rounds of Blazer brass in several different calibers without any problem. I usually order from Lucky Gunner, but have had good luck with Cabales locally.

I shoot anything I can get at the right price for range use. MagTech, Winchester (last resort for me), PPU, Remington UMC, Fiocchi (both Italian and US made), Blazer, Blazer Brass, Lawman, PMC, Wolf steel (only if I find it at .17/round or less), a few others I can't remember right now, even reloads from MassAmmo and Freedom Munitions - all have worked well for me in all my 9s. I will no longer do business with Freedom Munitions, but it's not about the quality of their ammo but rather their lack of customer service integrity in my experience.

I'm curious as to what happened that they didn't make right?

I never had an issue with their 9mm, but I did have two boxes of their .45acp that gave me me a squib load (one from each box). After the second one, I emailed them and said I didn't feel comfortable shooting the rest of it, and they paid to send back the partial box and two remaining full boxes that I had from that lot.

They said that I could get a refund or replacement ammo. I asked for replacement ammo and they sent me three boxes of 9mm by mistake (it was on the same original order because I had ordered both). When I emailed them to ask why I received 9mm when I sent back .45acp, they apologized for the mistake and said to keep it and they'd send me three boxes of .45acp too.

Any company can have a bad bullet now and then. Quality control isn't 100% for anyone in the industry, but it's how they handle their mistakes that makes me decide if I'll buy the product again. Freedom Munitions apologized and fixed the problem on their dime so I still buy from them.

Any quality factory loaded ammo in brass cases will do. I avoid steel and aluminum cases as I reload as well.

Winchester white box is good, but tends to be a little dirtier than others. Federal, Blazer, Speer, Fiocchi, Herters - all good stuff.

I've had good luck with Freedom Munitions for range ammo. I only buy new ammo and paid $11.50 / box with free shipping for 124G 9mm in 500 lots. I've shots a lot of their ammo with no problems. Very nice people to deal with.
