Sure, they should get public REPLIES to the TOPIC of the thread. Yours had nothing to do with it, and now you're just being a child about it nitpicking the other guy about YOUR assumptions regarding HIS house.

Your attacks are what is off topic, so maybe you need to look in the mirror before calling someone names.
Telling someone who is buying a device who thinks he can safely use indoors to shoot, that it might be a bad idea to do so, would seem to be on topic for a gun forum, wouldn't you?

The OP mentioned he wanted to shoot as safe as possible, so why would any discussion here dealing with safety be off topic?
So here are my opinions. The OP was talking about using the trap in his backyard. I too live in the country, on 20 acres with many hundreds of acres of wooded land & pastures around me. However, even in that setting, I would never use JUST this trap. IMO, any time you shoot you have to be prepared for the worst case scenario. What happens when you miss the trap... for whatever reason? That is why all shooting ranges are designed with huge berms with proper slopes to control missed shots. I am currently removing some trees on my property & having that track hoe cut part of the bank down on a deep ravine on the edge of my property. This will give me a 30' bank to shoot into, with heavy woods behind that. When these bullets hit, they can go all over the place. Watch any video of folks using tracers in the 15-22 & you will see what I'm talking about. I understand the trap is designed to restrict the flight of the bullet, however that is a relatively small target & can be missed. There is a reason shooting ranges use much more than this.
As far as shooting any rifle indoors, well I guess my above comments address that. I do agree that there is lead particles that are released whenever the bullet hits the steel. Even very small amounts of lead are dangerous, especially to kids. Look at the restrictions CPSIA has set up. They don't allow any more than 90 parts per million in paint or any surface coatings. Imagine how much lead could build up in a basement with just a small amount of shooting. And that lead would not be contained by the paint but free floating or loose on the surface of whatever.
IMO, shooting any rifle requires safety not be overlooked. You must always be prepared for the worst possible occurrence... not the normal. I personally have had 2 accidental (negligent) discharges of a gun in my presence. Only following basic gun safety (never point ANY gun at anyone) prevented injury. Part of that gun safety is being prepared when you somehow totally miss what you are aiming at... either by your own doing or maybe being accidentally pushed or slipping while shooting.
I think traps like this are great but they are not an end all. They don't provide proper safety of controlling all bullets. They should be used in the proper place.

A bullet trap (box) is a safety device. The OP talked about shooting safely. So how is any discussion about safely using a bullet trap off topic? What do you want to discuss?

Sure, but that's not what you were doing now, was it? Reading comprehension much? I suggest you reread the thread and see where the trouble started. Condescending someone else for having their setup indoors when you know nothing about their setup, is not helping the OP decide anything at all, especially when the OP stated he would be using it outdoors. Get it?
